SEO and social media are two completely different things. SEO is the skillset of tweaking a website onsite and offsite to rank higher in the search engines. Social media is just that. Using social media to contribute to an internet marketing campaign is a great tool. Adding twitter and facebook buttons to a website will increase the visibility of the site.
Social media is a great way to increase SEO due to the high ranking of many social media websites. Just wrote a hub on this.
The integration of SEO with social media is the new innovation in search engine optimization in fact many marketers are now starts using facebook marketing in getting high targeted traffic to their site.

Is Social Media Marketing really useful and how does it contribute? The answer to this question always contradicts. The main reason behind this is Social Media Marketing also depends on what type of product or service you are targeting and which is the specific audience to which you are targeting that product. One cannot use social media for every product in SEO / SEM campaigns. To get more details check my hub, "Reaching out to people through Social Media".
Social Media the new generation technique to promote our website in Search Engines
Social Media and Search Engine Optimisation maybe 2 different things as many are saying, however they complement each other.
The idea of SEO is to have higher ranking on the search engines. That is great but one of the important things that search engines love is the credibility of the site they are indexing. The credibility has been measured in various ways over the years some metrics were traffic and back-links (deep linking, one way linking, reciprocal linking, etc).
Today the same metrics in a way apply, but with much stricter rules. It is no longer the quantity of the links nor the volume of the traffic on its own. Today metrics such as where the traffic is coming from, the quality of the content where a link was found, etc
So if you think Social Media then think best traffic and quality of links, of course if your reputation is good.
This is really simplified I guess and how it is really measured by the search engines is really complex.
So think of SEM activities that provide interesting, engaging and quality content to your followers and hence the result is traffic, bookmarks, sharing with friends and better SEO.
SEO is the way of digital marketin while Social media is the part of SEO..For more help contact at Green Apple Sale..
