What's your favorite shop tool, and why?

If you know it, what's the make and model?

I love my shop tools.  It is hard to choose a favorite.  I imagine it would be me battery powered drill.  No cords to mess with and forget installing screws with a screwdriver anymore.  The one I use most is a DeWalt 18 volt powered drill.  It is light-weight enough to not tire a person out while having enough torque to  put screws in the toughest of lumber.

DeWalt is deluxe! I agree, they make an awesome power tool! It is hard to pick a favorite tool... In my original answer I said I couldn't live without my drill, but my Dremels are just about as necessary.

I totally agree with SirDent...power drill.  The cordless ones are heavier because the battery is built in.  I prefer Makita only because I've been using that brand since school (Sculpture major). Though, I've used DeWalt and they're pretty great too.  (and I love the yellow color - it makes it easy to find when you put it down).  And, the ideal set up - 2 drills, one for pilot holes and one for screwing...much easier and faster!

It seems universally everyone loves their drill. I have a 14 volt DeWalt xrp, and I recently bought a Ryobi 18v impact driver (in love). I have lots of tools, dual bevel sliding miter saw, table saw, small band saw, plunge router, a few sanders, drill press...but I want something new and not sure what would be worth my money at this juncture.

Sounds stupid but my favorite shop tool is my Stihl 046 chainsaw. I do alot with it. I build log homes, make furnature with it and so many other things.

That doesn't sound stupid at all!!

My favorite yard tool (back when I had a yard) was my cordless electric hedge trimmer--good for all sorts of errant plant growth.

Too cool that you make log homes and furniture!!! I don't even own a chainsaw :-(

I'm another fan of my drill--a cordless one with variable speed and torque settings for screw/nut driving. And epic battery life! A definite must-have for everyone.

Sorry, I'm too lazy to go look up the make and model, but I think it's a Makita (90% sure). Makita makes awesome power tools--I own several.
