   No, wiki-leaks should not be shut down.  The owner should not be arrested.  The harassment is not about "security" -- it's about secrecy and power.
   
   Naturally, your rulers want to shut up Julian Assange.  Anything that challenges or exposes ruling elite chicanery has to be shut down.  Also see what happened to e-gold

   Wikileaks should not be shut down nor should anyone be arrested. No one did anything to jeopardize national security. We are finally learning that the folksy charm these politicians show us on tv is merely a front for their sinister authoritarian directorates. It reminds me of the 1990 images of Saddam Hussein kissing babies and shaking hands. To my understanding, it has been revealed that Saudi Arabia basically owns our country due to the loans it has supplied our government over the years. We have learned that the pressure to invade Iran has been coming from the Saudis all along. All else is media spin. Our government, which keeps its people in the dark, has finally been exposed as fraudulant. Now our "leaders" have resorted to naked aggression and slander--the last petty resort of tyrants.

   I've been following this story with a lot of interest. No I don't think they should be shut down. I think we should have more openness in government and our dealings with the rest of the world. Too much secrecy is good for no one!
   
   If our government is ashamed of their behavior then perhaps they need to change it.

   Mr. DaBeaner, Ayn Rand is or was (`cause she might have shrivelled away and died, she was pretty old a while back) a witch which did no good to this world. The neo-cons are her minions whether she intented things to be that way or not.
   In terms of Wiki-leaks ... there is no such thing as too much information. Information is knowledge. The more we know, the better it is.
   The public needs to check-up on their appointed rulers but we dont have a system of checks and balances. That is why politicians and lobbyists do what is good for them and their pockets. We never know much and we are treated like stupid cattle. The less we know the more zombiesh we are and easier to control. The truth needs to be told and I am thankful for leaks and those who spread the word.

   The suggestion that we have to chose between security and democracy in shutting down Wikileaks does not fit with my definition.  I see nothing in the democratic process which allows anyone participating in it to assert that they have total freedom to expose anything within their capability just because they have access and feel they are protected under freedom of speech.  In the the first place, that is a stretch on the intent of free speech.  Secondly, it is a total disregard for the lives and welfare of others who may be guard simply by the fact that information contained within those documents is classified and not shared beyond a need to know.  Thirdly, to assume that information is classified by our government simply to hide something which is of a sinister nature is absurd.  With regard to security, the fact of the matter is that in order to maintain some level of security there must be some level of secrecy.  The same people who would scream for this person's right to expose these papers are the same ones who would scream for their government to protect them when the information led them being placed in harm's way. Wise up, everyone who is an American is not the enemy. WB

   i agree with nearly all the respondents - Wikileaks should not be shut down. The only security likely to be compromised is that of the dishonest and sleezy politicians who make up our governments - obviously they don't want to be exposed so the world knows just what a bunch of fake gas bags they are. they don't like the thought of us 'brainless minions' seeing them for what they really are.
