   Almost all of my dogs are named after characters from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I was a relief when the movies came out and our vet could finally say all of their names.

   I named my dog Rusty after an animated dog on a television hardware commercial because of the resemblance.
   Usually my pets are named for my favourite writers/characters.

   My female is named for my children with the initial of my last name as the last letter.
   M is for Matthew
   A is for Allan
   G is for Garth
   Z is for Zutautas
   Magz but at times we call her Maggie
   
   My male dog Bruce
   This is my for The Bruce Clan
   My grandmother was from Scotland and he is named after our Clan name.

   Our German Shepard got his name from Maximus in Gladiator. Of course, then I found out Max is the most popular dog name. Oh well!
   
   I think our next one will be Leonidus.

    Our first family dog was named Clyde because his paws were so big he reminded us of the Clydesdale horses. Then we got him a companion and named her Bonnie. When Bonnie was 2 years old we got our 3rd dog so we decided to follow a theme of wanted criminals. We named him Pretty Boy Floyd. And when we rescued our next dog, we named him Al Capone. Our dogs might be named for robbers, but the only thing they will steal is your heart.

    I wanted a name that wasn't a common word so the dog would recognize its name when called.  I chose Biscuit.
    
    And... an aside.  If you get a dog, from an early age of the dog, raise your hands above your head and clap your hands a couple of times when you call the dog.  The dog will very quickly learn that when it sees you do this then it is the sign to return to you.
    
    Try it... it works really quickly and you won't have to shout... just raise your hands above your head and clap and fido will come running.

    My dog Rocky is a little Cairn Terrier (Todo from Wizard of Oz).  He was named Rocky because despite being much smaller than the Golden Retriever puppy at the pet store, Rocky would always end up being on top of the Golden Retriever and this made me think of Rocky Balboa!

    We just got a Brittany Spaniel - Lab mix from the pound. My wife named her Charleigh because she thought it would be easy for our son to say and she liked it. I call her Princess DD (Damn Dog) because she's a 50 pound puppy bouncing everywhere and our son repeats everything I say.

    I named my dog Klyde after the river Clyde running through Glasgow. He was born near the river so it was an obvious choice (but I had to be a little different so I changed the first letter)...

    CeCe is what I like to call a 'Huskeranian': husky and Pomeranian. I had just come back home from a Spring Break trip to Paris when we acquired CeCe. I thought of naming her Coco in memoriam to Coco Chanel, but everyone has a dog named Coco, so I chose CeCe instead.

    We got our dog from a rescue shelter and kept the name she had. For continuity I believe in keeping the dog's name if they have one.

    The most interesting name for a dog that I came up with was when we were remodeling our current home.  My dad was helping my husband and I out one day and we were working on putting on a front porch.  My dad kept telling me go get this, go get that, etc..  I felt like a dog having to fetch all of his tools.  As I was thinking this, I was on my way to "fetch" his ratchet.  That is when it came to me...when I get my next dog I am going to name him Ratchet.  Sure enough, when we finshed our new home and moved in we got a new puppy and I got to name him.

    I picked my dog up in the Transkei South Africa. He was in a bad way at around four weeks old. He seemed a bit rusty in the aspects of health. He was then name Rusty. He is now going on three years old big strong and healthy.

    When I get a dog, I always call them spare, I keep 3 Rottys all the time and every 13 years or so I have to get a spare as a back up to a geriatric dog that can no longer get about with out help, like picking them up and putting them in the jeep because they can't jump anymore, so I get the spare and as time goes along I watch the personality grow and I'll start calling them what they are. The last one, about a year ago was 3 months old and she took on the habit, being so much smaller than the others, of taking her head and bumping my leg to get me to look down, so I started calling her bump.
    She's full grown but still bumps me all the time. If I'm in the hammock she bumps from below, she bumps me out of bed in the mornings about 3. dust

    Daisy- She was a black lab that like most pups had trouble fitting her own big paws. She would jump on the daisy flowers we had out front and fumble and look very cute.
    
    Chubby- He was short little tubby puppy but grew into a short skinny dog.
