   Do you say hi or smile to people you see while walking?
   
   Obviously not in a crowded city or something, just like walking on a footpath in the suburb. I often do.  It just brightens everybody's day I think.

   I do sometimes, it's usually an elderly person that I give a smile and hello to. It all depends whether the person walking past me looks at me or not but if they do I always say hello

   I think it's like social etiquette to smile,nod your or something when paths like that cross,I do I don't always get the same response,but I do anyway.

   Yes, I smile also if they are looking at me as I pass by. It's the same the other way around. If they smile and say hello, I respond.

   yes, it would be unusual to walk past someone and not acknowledge them with a hello or a smile.  I'm generally out-going and social and I think most people appreciate a friendly hello.

   I regret that I smile too rarely. I remember the situation when I was walking across the street with troubles in my head and an unknown person said to me "Cool T-shirt" Simple sentence but it made smile on my face and I forgot for a while about my problems.

   Where I live, most people smile and say hello even without knowing you and I find it great, and of course I do the same. And you are right, it does brighten your day.

   British people are v reserved, and I guess I don't because of the culture. But I've decided that I will from now on.. just to change the flavour!!

    I mostly smile with people, sometimes i say hi or hello! One of my friends told me one time, "so all you can do is smile..all i see is cheeks" LOL

    Occasionally I will say hi to people I walk past, but the tough part is that I'm not the most social person to people I don't know and it's made more complicated when people are more wrapped up in their cellphones than they are in the world around them.
    
    I have to say it is refreshing when someone smiles and says hello or waves, especially when they go out of their way to do so

    I know I should more, I always like it when people say hi to me, but normal I don't smile or say hi.

    Well, I am from the south and I don't know about other parts of the country or world but we always smile and say "hi" or if it is morning I will smile and say "good morning".

    Of course I do.  I'm from the south.  However, living here in the midwest sometimes I get that "she must be a weirdo" look from people.  Why just today I walked by someone and asked if she was having a good day.  She asked, "Do I know you?" 
    But just like Robert Palmer said - It takes every kind of people!

    I smile, it's just polite Southern Hospitality. It does throw me off guard when it's not returned, but it doesn't deter me, because smiles are contagious most of the time (: !
