Does the jonestown massacre prove how weak the human mind can be?
from one person's ideoligy , almost a thousand people commited suicide or were kiled, does it prove how easy we can be brainwashed?
Yes, the techniques are used ALL THE TIME - even on YOU and NO the strongest mind can be broken.
Social engineering via so many subtle and overt methods that most people don't even recognize it or if do - say "that's the way it is".
It explains why abused partners stay with an abuser and why re-education cults are used for court ordered attendance to stay somewhat 'free' while on parole. (AA and Family Peace of Honolulu)
The closest thing that most people recognize is one on one and not state sanctioned such as Gitmo or Psychological Operations (PSYOP) and Psychological Warfare (PSYWAR),

Just the opposite - it shows us how strong the human mind is.
There are also people who managed to escape the massacre. I think those who died, unfortunate though it was, were actively looking for someone to follow. To some, free will is a burden. And so they gave it up to a man who was happily willing to take it and make all their decisions for them. Now if we had that on a nationwide scale it would be called a government.
It takes a multitude of things to "brainwash" a person, but in that case I feel it was the desire to be a part of something that they perceived to be better than what they had before. It took them to South America and eventually their graves.
Only about a dozen children survived, only because they were at a basketball tournament at the time when the mass suicide occurred.
One of those children was Jim Jones' grandson, who played major college basketball.
No , quite the opposite. It shows how powerful the mind can be, and that it can be used as a weapon. Don't underestimate the power of your thoughts.
Actually, even though Jones did condition people, the majority of the folks in People's Temple stayed because they believed in the cause. They believed in the cause and in the other people involved.
Most of the folks there that day were killed - murdered - including the folks at the airstrip. They were shot, while back in the pavilion, there were babies being ripped from mother's arms, people being held down and injected and children being force-fed the poison via syringes or through drinking it from cups.
I've had this point explained to me by a survivor -
It's like the experiment of the frog placed in boiling water. If the frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, due to the temperature. If a frog is placed in a pan of cold water and then it is heated up slowly, the frog will not notice the changes and will eventually boil to death. This is the way it went in Jonestown. All of the changes in Jones took place so slowly that many did not even realize he was drug induced most of the time.
The people stayed for each other. They stayed for the cause. They were doing very good things in the community. They thought that would be happening in Jonestown as well. Unfortunately, they all learned this wasn't the plan Jones had. May those that died all rest in peace. May those that lived all live in peace. May those family members who lost so much in such a tragedy, all love in peace. May the public, some day, understand all of this, with peace. It is what it is. They can't change what happened. However, they tried. They didn't sit back and watch the world abuse the poor, elderly and black folks in their community. They joined a cause that they thought could make the world a better place. I feel their minds were conditioned, for sure, however they were led down a bitter path while believing they were lighting the way.
Due to the courage it took to work against the grain of society to create a better place in that era - I believe it shows how powerful their minds, souls and hearts were. It's just too bad they had an underlying current of dysfunction fighting them the whole way.

Why does human mind has to believe in something? What is it in human mind that it needs to have a belief. It wants to be satiated with answers about his special place in the Universe, the meaning of its existence and the death will not be the final rest. Once that belief sets in it roots itself in...

Did you know that the expression "A sound mind in a sound body" was incomplete? It was one of my mother's favourite expressions and it was delivered to me on a daily basis when I was a child. In Latin. Maybe because she was a doctor and I was a sickly weakling. Now, my son...
