To atheists. In what or whom you believe?

What is it that you hold on?
What is in the deepest room of your soul?
Is that something had happened in the past and made you atheist?
    Do you believe in Satan?

I believe in reality. My reality - not a reality put together by power hungry meglomaniacs 6000 years ago in Sumeria.

Religion was first conceived by literate astronomers/astrologers who were also the first priests/kings/pharoahs: around 4000 BC, as a means of controlling the thoughts and actions of others for their own enrichment.

It was this ability to control the collective efforts of the masses that enabled the first city states to arise.

All the belief systems/religions practiced in the world today have their ultimate origin in ancient Sumer and the priest kings of the temple of Anu: the sky father, that stood at the center of the fabled city of Ur.

There is nothing about the Judeo-Christian religion that is original. It was all copied and plagiarized by Jewish scribes from the myths, legends and beliefs of Sumer,Babylon,Assyria and Persia.

The writers of the New Testament - all Greek speaking exiles that lived in Asia (present day Turkey) at places like Ephesus and Pergamon - also borrowed heavily from Greek mythology.

Why should I let any of this nonsense shape my world-view?

And no I do not believe in Satan. The name itself comes from Hebrew and it means 'the adversary' nothing more. When you read the Old Testament and come across the word adversary it will have been translated from Satan - so go read your Bible and learn. There is no Satan.

Our destinies are not mapped out for us by a god - our destinies are mapped out for us by the people that control the money supply: which, in turn, allows them to control everything. These people are the direct descendants of the priest kings of ancient Sumer. They occupy the apex of the power pyramid that controls our world. They want you to carry on reading your book. They want you to believe. They want you to sleep on whilst they steal your birthright out from under you.

So are you going to sleep on - enslaved by a mind-set that was first manufactured six-thousand years ago?

Or are you going to wake up?

E Hemingway said all thinking men are atheists...
I don't necessarily agree but i feel the term agnostic applies to me. to place so much faith in such a murderous and vengeful god leaves me blank.
the bible- koran- and torah from beginning to end are books of vengeance and murder not love. The love contained in them wouldn't fill a shot glass. from the alpha to the omega i see destruction, prejudice and bigotry.
it is unfathomable to me why people need to hold on to anything other than the others creatures of our world to see balance.
stop with all the fuss about others souls- leave my inner being for me to discover- love- age and knowledge are my guides.
if anything, the buddha and christ are wonderful teachers- they just aren't god- god as you put it- is the universal order that exists in all things great and small.
There is no satan other than Man.

I don’t believe in either God or Satan. Neither of them is part of my thoughts or my life and I don’t miss any of them.

I do not trust my life to someone “higher or lower” force and I do not believe that any one than myself or other people will make things happen in my life. Everything that happens is because of humans or due to natural events. If I fail, it is my own fault and if I succeed it is because of me. And if I die it is due to natural causes or human actions since everything living is going to die sooner or later.

If I must state something I “believe” in it is nature and evolution, physics and science. That’s it. I don’t need to search any further, to me that is enough and I do not feel emptiness or that something is missing.

Nothing has happened in my life that made me a non believer exept that I can not bring myself to belive in the Bible. I do not see myself as an atheist either. I see no point in trying to debate with others if a God exists or not. Religion has no place in my life and I don’t give it any thoughts other than when I see war that is fought in the name of religion or here at hubpages where this constant debate puzzles me. But then I most wonder about people, not the religion. Either you believe or you don’t, fine! I respect those who do believe and I am happy for them, but it is not for me!

i believe in myself and my fellow humans. we've accomplished so much in the last century alone. yes we do bad things but we also do a lot of good. as for my soul, like veryone else i don't have a soul so who cares. satan is something religious people believe in not a rational person. i lived my life and i new since i was a kid that god was something humans created.

Nothing, that's the point. You asking if there was something in our pasts that made us atheist is almost offensive to me. Maybe the thing that happened in our pasts was not being brainwashed when we were young. I was raised to think for myself and I was not only allowed but encouraged to question everything.

I feel like you are implying that something bad would have had to have happened in the past to make us scorn and resent religion. When in fact all it really takes is a grasp of the fundamentals of science.

I can only speak for myself here but the idea of Satan is just as preposterous as Zeus and the Flying Spaghetti Monster.  Science may not have all the answers but at least it doesn't pretend to and ask that you follow blindly.

There are some things that are too big to comprehend, I understand that.  Religion is a crutch for people who can't understand that we can't understand.  I bet it feels really good to believe that all your loved ones will be waiting for you in the kingdom of heaven.

Why is there always the assumption that if one does not believe in god then one must believe is something else?!

How about believing in oneself, then? How about believing in the things one can see and touch and feel?

I believe in the human race.  If we all just pushed beliefs aside for a moment, and realized all the harm it's caused in this world, , all people could maybe get together and introduce the belief of love.  Love for all people no matter what your race, nationality, color, height, weight, disability, and so on.

Why in the world would a person believe in Satan if they do not believe in God? That doesn't make even the slightest amount of sense.
I do not believe in a God but that does not mean I have some traumatic event in my past. It means I have an opinion based on logic rather than blindly following others and allowing myself to be brain washed.
The term 'Atheist' doesn't even make sense. It is naming the non-believers. It is like the word Athlete. Do we have a label for all of us who are not athletes? No. So why do we label those of us who are not theist? Anyway that is another argument that I will save for another time.
Why is it that you assume that if you do not believe in one thing you must believe in something else? I guess I will just say that I believe in myself. I believe I am capable of having a good life without having to devote my precious time to some divine being with some seriously twisted ideas of morality (if the bible is anything to go by) and unlike you I have the ability to carry myself.

If you had any common sense you'd know the answer to this.
