How do we explain others on how to become americans?
what best advice can we americans give to people who come from different parts of world, on what it takes to be an american? eg. language accent, driving vehicles etc..
Pretty hard to define what makes an american an american...
But I'd say the really essence of it is a love of freedom and good english skills. Accents does not really matter. Our founding fathers probably had a british accent and nobody bothered them
Being an American is about having basic freedoms which don't intrude upon the lives of others. Not that its always that way because often times it isn't.
But its an American dream to pursue your dreams as long as it does not oppress others.
I'm sorry, but I'd have to disagree with everybody who answered with "freedom". America has more opportunity than freedom. I've been traveling for about a year now out of the United States and I've been living in Thailand for half of that.
I think the main thing they will need is a good grasp of how to speak English. Then I think they'd be more comfortable in cities like Los Angeles or New York which are both very ethnically diverse cities.
Any person who goes to any country should know at least some things about the language of the people in that country. No need at all to be skilled in the accent, and driving vehicles is not something peculiar to specific nation or people.Remember also that any person in this earth is proud of his country of origin even if he is granted another nationality, and he can not at all cut his roots in order to be another person, even if he wishes.
Put your heart in or get your ass out..............seems pretty straightforward and simple to me.
Stop telling me, how great this place is, that you ran from! Stop asking ME to pay homage to your mother country. Stop asking ME to "celebrate" her, or speak her language, eat her food, or recoginize her holidays and customes.
Please..........stop telling me, that MY children have to learn to respect your old country.......you came here by choice, respect US.
i would suggest that they should understand that they are in a diferent country and should happily follow the way, americans behave and celebrate festive occasions and participate in them and speak english fluently and comfortably. its also about the greetings formal and informal way and be considerate and soft when meeting anybody at store.
americans are friendly and try to adjust with them and learn their way of loving life and enjoying it.

Do Americans (USA) forget sometimes that our country was founded on....Foreigners coming to a land where they didn't speak the language? Do we sometimes forget that we weren't the first people here?

Why do so many Americans hate America? And if they hate it so much why don't they just leave? One thing that really bothers me is the way some Americans seem to hate everything about America. I'd just like to ask them: "If you hate everything about the country you live in then why are you...

Has diversity benefitted America or has it hindered America. If diversity has benefitted America then why are people so down on differences?

Can anyone explain to me why Americans are so hung up on God and Religion?I am Australian and it has been a source of interest how Americans seem to allow faith based answers to get in the way of plain common sense.

Why do you think Americans are often viewed negatively around the world? While living overseas I was sometimes really hurt and bewildered when people viewed me negatively because I was American. The assumptions about us were based on government actions or Hollywood and now a days the Internet. It...
