Will the world end by 2012 as per the sony pictures movie 2012?

   Is it true that the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012 which means the world will end by May 21, 2012.  Do really Planet X exist?  Is it going to strike on earth, is really the pole going to shift according to Nasa in 2012?
   Anyone knows the truth?

      The Mayan calendar doesn't say that the world is going to end....only that an "AGE" is going to end...just like the previous 4 ages did before this one.
      
      "Planet X", in whatever form you may consider it, does exist.  It may be another planetary body, an asteroid, or as some believe, a brown dwarf star which is the "binary twin" to our own sun.  Nonetheless, there is an astral body outside our "known" solar system affecting us.  But if the Sumerians are correct (and they have been on many other aspects), it won't return into our vicinity for at least another 1000 years.
      
      Pole shifts are a proven fact from a geological standpoint.  But there is no indication that a pole shift is imminent in 2012.  In fact, if geological history holds true, the next pole shift won't occur for some 1000 years or so (which incidentally happens to coincide with the next passing of Planet X according to Sumerian myth).
      All of these predictions are based on the numbers 144,000, 120, 72, and ultimately 60...which was the root of the Sumerian sexigesimal mathematical system.
      
      
      The question I find much more interesting is "How were the ancient Mayans familiar with the knowledge of the ancient Mesopotamians?

      One thing I do know is that nobody knows the exact date when the world will end, however we are fastly approaching that time.
      
      PS. Remember the Millenium - a lot of people thought the world would end in 2000.

   Lets be positive, is not necessary that everything written earlier would  always become true. Their may be some other reasons why their calender does not go beyond May 21 2012. atleast they know that they are not going to exist till that time so why to make calender. This doesn,t mean world will not be their.

   I have had a lot of traffic to my hub on the subject. I don't believe the world comes to an end then but there are a lot of people who believe and want the end of the world and they also believe that they will be saved. Others are just cashing in on this with books on the subject. The interest in 2012 is linked with all the other doomsday predictions and scenarios and fed by religious beliefs like the "rapture" etc. It's some sort of mass insanity wanting the end of the world!

   As per Bard on onthewriteside - it is a bit exaggerated, in my opinion anyway.
   
   Way back when I was at scool, I can remember being worried about the world ending in 1984. Then of course to creep towards the end of the milenium kicked in and 2000 doomsday predictions started.
   
   I also have a hub (unpublished) about the predictions and whilst I've gone back and forth adding bits, I can't say that I'm hugely worried.
   
   Life will end for all of one day, no matter what.
   
   And maybe planet x does exist - who knows. But the media is known for feeding us crap purely based upon the fact that some of us will buy into it.

   First of all, no matter how much research is done, movies are works of fiction.Only one lie is needed to make what may be true false.Many people do not believe the Bible but they believe in the information from an ancient culture.Everything was written for our learning; and I believe the Mayan left their information for someone to take up the baton and carry it to the next point...like runners in a relay. Nostradamus and others have made predictions.Even information that Daniel and John the Revelator wrote is just becoming clear.The world comes to an end for you whenever you die.I will not comment on Planet X. As for Planet Earth,God is not Santa Claus.Those who believe in God know what He said in His manual.The unbelievers,who depend on man to provide answers, will continue to set dates and propagate what will interest the public and bring in an income.Any idea with a dollar sign will be exhausted for personal gain.
