Life of Pi by Yann Martel, one of my all time favourites.
If you've already read that, anything by Douglas Adams.
If you've already read lots of Douglas Adams, see my hub about Wake, Watch and Wonder.
I have several suggestions as follows:
(1) The Introvert Advantage--Marti Olsen Laney, Ph.D.- this is an excellent book about introverts detailing how they are ostradized by an extrovert society. The book further details how introverts are wired differently from extroverts and the special gifts that introverts have and how introverts contributed to society.
(2) Nerds-David Anderegg, Ph.D.-this book discusses how smart and intelligent children are ostracized in current American society where being less than intelligent is glorified. This is a good read.
(3) My Mother, My Self- Nancy Friday. This excellent details the incricacies of the mother-daughter relationships. It further details how some mothers become threatened with their maturing daughter's burgeoning adolescence and their sexuality. Even though this is a dated book, this book has some prevalent themes for the milennium.
(4) Excuses Begone-Wayne W. Dyer, Ph.D- this wonderful book details how not to let our past influence and/or deter us from accomplishing what we wish to accomplish.
When I want a really good but pretty easy read, I go for Michael Crichton. He wrote the Jurassic Park books as well as Congo and Sphere, just to name a few you may be familiar with. I've read all of his books, and my personal favorites are Andromeda Strain, Sphere, and Timeline. Disclosure is a little bit of a lesser know one that was made into a movie starring Michael Douglas (one of my favorite actors). Good movie, and I enjoyed the book as well. Really you can't go wrong with him. Very good books, well written, but extremely easy reading. Which is good if you have a busy schedule and have to read on and off.
Right now I'm reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's sort of a sci-fi comedy/satire and, in my opinion, pretty hilarious.
If you want something a little more classic, some good ones are Treasure Island, The Island of Dr. Moreau, Frankenstein, A Separate Peace, The Hound of the Baskervilles...
Aaaand I've given more than my fair share of opinions
Hope that helped.
I have just started a book called East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Its a classic, many people recommended it to me and i caved i'm on chapter seven and so far i'm loving it. Steinbeck is amazing his descriptive writing makes you feel like your standing right there in the moment. I was always a Jane Austin/ John Grisham/ J D Salinger type of girl but i have truly converted to Steinbecks classics.
thanks for the suggestions everyone! I just finished the sookie stackhouse series (the HBO series Trublood is based on these). I am really into psychology, so all the ones you suggested gmwilliams sound really interesting. I don't usually get into sci-fi much, but I read Ender's Game, and it was actually pretty good. I usually go for crime drama/murder mystery type stuff. I will check out some of these!! Thanks again everyone!
Watership Down. Honestly one of the loveliest books regarding animals in nature. After reading the book, I suggest watching the cartoon. Two classics.
I read a really short book called "The Changeling Sea" It was a thin little book that took only a few days of casual reading to finish. I really enjoyed it though. It made me feel like I was in some kind of dream world the way she writes. She is really an amazingly descriptive and fluid writer.
Rizpah, by Charles Israel. I just finished it and could not put it down. I've gotten several of my friends to start it now and they all say the same thing. It's a really compelling story.
Depends what you're interested in. If you're into fiction (and you like music as well, esp. classical music), I've got some suggestions here:

If you're into science fiction and/or fantasy, I just created 2 hubs on these amazing authors who write both SF and fantasy, and picked out their best novels:
