Does being a good person even matter anymore?
Have you ever had a bad day? Bad week? Bad Month? How about a bad year? Or maybe you have had a bad life?
Have you ever looked at another person and asked yourself how their life can be so much better than yours? I am not talking about jealousy I am talking about morals here. I am referring to a all around good person who doesn't lie, cheat, steal, kill, or purposely hurt peoples feelings looking at a person who does all of the above yet still lives life like a king or queen. Does being a good person even matter?
Yes. The phrase "nice guys finish last" is only true if you let it be true. Be a good person, but don't let others take advantage of you. Do what is right and things will work out. I felt the desire for vengeance recently because of a supposed friend cheated me out of thousands of dollars and got away with it. But I decided to move on and try not to dwell on it and life has gotten much better. I would go so far as to say it is GREAT! Am I still mad. A little. But I have chosen to be the better man and by doing so I think it has paid off to me.
Yes, it does matter. You cannot control what others do, but you can always behave with dignity and class. It does not matter if people do not notice the value you bring to the world. (They probably do notice anyway and don't say so)
Good answer (to an intriguing question)! Besides, even if they don't notice they my benefit from the value you bring to the world and that benefit might help them to become a better person or at least not such a drag on the good people.
Just remember that what goes around, comes around. They will get theirs someday. You might not be there to see it but it will happen. It may appear that they are getting away with things now but the good Lord knows the score. Remember, we are not to judge. Just live your life and be the best person you can be. It will catch up with them.
It differs if you hold value to those things and can be proud of yourself for living those values.
If every good person out there would think, "Hey, it does not matter, I will stop being a good person", where will the world go?!
It was once said that Integrety is doinging and being the righteous person ...even when no ones looking. Yes it matters , make it matter to you!
Being a good, decent human being is not about how much we accumulate but rather doing the right thing for the sake of it being right and just.
Who cares what others have, do or think.? Do right because it is right and feel good about it.
There are a lot of good people in this world dispite what it seems. I am a good person, aren't you? If we look throught the lends of the world they would have us believe there is nothing good in this world, but the truth is we have so much good that is rarely heard about, because good does not sell or make money.
I use to think this way until i turned off the television which only reports the worse of the worse. I find that on lets say Facebook in my circle i have thousands of wonderful gooooood people in my life. At work, church, small group, theatre, community and the list goes on and on.
I am sure if you surround yourself with the right people you will see so many beautiful goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood people you won't be able to count them all
Yes, fortunately, it does. When I came home from work today, my garage door was wide open. Yet, Everything in my garage (from having just moved in) was still there, unharmed. No one had apparently tried the lock on the door to the house and found it was unlocked (or if they did, my big dog would have given them an earful of foul doggie language). All of the good people who passed by my house today chose NOT to invade my home and steal anything. And, we had chaos--workmen working on reshingling the roof next door--mine will be done tomorrow, but they delivered materials today, taking down part of my tree in the process. The smallest good deed done and the smallest bad deed avoided all count in the scale of life and everyone gets judged by it throughout life. I understand what you mean better than I'll admit publicly, but being a good person is really the ultimate goal in life, in my way of thinking: spread a little goodness around and others will start to notice and learn and then emulate. The Lady Justice's scale starts move in the right direction for both of you, teacher and student.
In my experience, I have seen Karma in the works. I don't want to be on the wrong side of the road when "she" shows up. So overall, I work on being a good person. I don't believe that it will bring me riches or a heavenly place setting, but I have to answer my conscience (then ultimately God.) When I do ask my conscience was I fair today, and was I a good person today, I like to hear the answer of either yes, or I did my damndest to get it right.
Ha ha ha! I love your philosophy. It's similar to mine. But yours is better so I'll borrow it I hope that's okay with you. ;-) I love the 2nd part, "I did my damndest to get it right." I'm too hard on myself; if I add that it might help.
Cheers!
Absolutely, you can borrow it if it helps. Sometimes we have to just remember that we are only human. Thanks
Of course being a good person matters. What would the purpose to it all be otherwise. Even when I look at others better off than me I can find something about them that they haven't got. That could be love, friendship, trust etc. I wouldn't want people to think I was a bad person and I am sure most of us are the same.

As long as you are a good person, does it matter what religion you believe in?

Why is it when you are striving to be a better person.....There is always that one person, that one evil gnome that isn't quite after your favorite hi-cuts but after your soul. To ban this normal looking yet disgusting creature away, suggestions?

If I am a good person but do not believe in God what will happen to me?

What is it that makes you a good person? Is it that God told you to and you fear the fires of hell? Is it something you even understand about yourself? My reason for trying daily to be a good person, the best I can be, is that I want to live in a better world. If I am ever to realize this desire...

Do you think you are a good person?Do you feel you are a genuinely good person at heart? Why do you feel you are? Is it your actions that make you feel this way? How you live your life? Or your religious affiliations.

I was reading a threat started a while ago (and since then discontinued) about 'the ideal human' and was intrigued by the responses. I really enjoyed the topic and was wondering what kind of input some of you hubbers have as far as virtues are concerned.Do you believe you are a good person? If so,...
