Have you any good recommendations for recent works of fiction?

I need a new novel to read, and don't know where to start looking for one as there is so much choice.
Does anybody have a favourite recent book that they would recommend.

anything by Phillipa Gregory if you like period fiction. And they are series books, so you will be reading for a while. She has command of language, imagery, and the time period which makes her novels an excellent read. They are action-filled and told from a woman's perspective in English history in the Tudor period. If you decide to read them, I think you won't be disappointed. I've been hooked since the first one I picked up and they are a great diversion at the end of the day.

What kind of books do you like? Stephen White  and both Jonathan and Faye Kellerman have long running series of thrillers. Both feature male psychotherapists who have cop friends who help profile the "bad guys." If you like Metaphysical things, Threads by Nell Gavin is the best book I've read lately. In it, Anne Boleyn has to forgive Henry VIII for beheading her when she is in a different incarnation. The book shows their souls together in all different time frames, and explained lots of history too. I review many books I read if you look at some of my stuff, but aside from that, write me on my blog if you wish and I'd be happy to recommend books. I read several a week. Goodreads.com is an excellent place to find books you would enjoy too. Happy reading!

Does it really have to be recent? Or can it be something we've read recently? I would recommend anything by John Grisham, a lawyer who writes legal thrillers. One of my favorites by him is "The Brethren," about geriatric inmates locked away in a federal prison. They've got a little gay outing mail scam going on and this little enterprise of the "The Brethren," which is what the three old inmates call themselves, comes to a head when they snag a presidential candidate in their nets. The CIA has to get involved and everything...... and so on and so forth.

Again, if you like fast-paced reads to relax, for enjoyment, I would advise you to read anything by Grisham.
