Obesity in America
Do you think that the food offered in America is causing obesity? If this is the case, then how can you avoid food that everyone eats?
The easily accessible food is cheap and unhealthy. 1000 calories of fries costs $0.20-$0.30 to produce, is sold for $1 and is clogging up the veins of the consumer and adding fat to his/her body.
Many are not able to afford the more healthy and expensive options.
I took a class a while back on the health of the US as a nation and why obesity is such a problem. My professor had said it is the fact that poor people are fat because they can't afford healthy foods.
That to me is the most ignorant statement anyone could ever say. I'm sorry but I believe obesity is caused by people not being educated in healthy food and healthy living, it is also by people being lazy. I never was traditionally taught in any which way on how to eat healthy, I think the only thing I knew was to not eat fast food on a regular basis. Either way, if you read and you learn about how to eat healthy, it's actually quite simple and is probably less expensive than your Big Mac that your clogging your arteries with.
Rice and beans are very cheap and relatively healthy solutions. It is a filling meal which includes most of the nutrients one needs for energy yet not much fat at all. Black beans include protein and are usually at most $1 a can. You can easily feed a family of 4 with $10 worth of rice and beans. Add in a little bit of onions peppers and chicken and you're set. Chicken is one of the cheaper meats but also is actually one of the better meats for you.
America needs to stop being so lazy and crunched for time and take time to cook a decent meal that won't kill you by clogging up your arteries.
I have noticed that so many of the drinks in America are laced with salt (some kind of chemical) that makes you even thirstier. People are always looking at food but what about the drinks containing sugar/fake sugar, salt and other chemicals. Surely they can't be good for the system. People really don't know what goes into these liquids.
I think that some people should try to drink plain water for a few weeks to see if what I am saying has any truth to it. Go ahead and eat food with sugar in it but try staying away from what is offered to drink in stores (except water) It is worth a try. Not everyone puts on weight for the same reason. This advice might work for some and not for others.
Sure the food in restaurants and esp. fast food chains is one of the main causes of obesity. So is the lack of activity and exercise. How can you avoid the foods? Don't eat out, eat at home and eat 'clean'. Don't buy pre-packaged, frozen or sodium filled canned goods. Buy fresh and watch what spices/sauces you add.
Re-obesity being related to poverty, YES there is a corelation to this. People who are poor cannot afford to buy fresh. They buy staples like bread, potatoes and peanut butter. It is really very sad. And, perhaps they don't get enough exercise to counter balance this, but neither do most of America's population.
Laziness has NOTHING to do with it. Perhaps there is also a sense of hopelessness in poverty ridden populations that causes a lack of motivation which does NOT equate to laziness.

Attention grammar police, can you actually "eat healthy"?Since eat is a verb, shouldn't it be followed by an adverb, like "healthfully" instead of an adjective?

Why do so many people dispute or avoid the facts about the benefits of nutrition, diet, or fitness?there is more information and scientific fact today than at any other time yet obesity and other dis-ease proliferate. What are the contributing factors to the seemingly declining health of our nation?

Does America really have an obesity epidemic and if so, why?Is it all too much food? Too much bad food? Bad stuff in our food? No exercise? Changing insurance standards? What is the problem (assuming there is one) and what is the answer?
