   I read a lot when I have the chance. for me it is necessary to generate new ideas. Reading and writing go together.Earnest Hemingway did not advertise it because he was developing a macho image, but I have been told that he spent two hours a day reading.

   I've always been told that most writers read a lot. I've always been a really heavy reader myself and I believe that's reflected in and helps my writing a lot.

   That is not true. Good writers read a lot and learn from each other. I love to read and I always have.

   Yes, I am an avid reader.
   
   I will  read a magazine in the checkout lines........if a book really grasps me, I will devour it, losing sleep to do so.   In fact, once a start a book, I feel compelled to finish it.  If it was a particulary good story,....I feel sad, at its ending, as though, I had said goodbye to a friend.
   
   There have been times, that I have read the dictionary!

    To be any good as a writer, you absolutely MUST read! Saddleridder1 is quite correct. What ever gave you the idea that most writers don't read. How else does one learn to write WELL?

    Personally, i read alot mention them - articles, stories, poems, newspapers, novels, hubs etc.
    
    I think it takes a voracious reader to make a wonderful and great writer.

    Reading allows you to learn a lot and many writers i am sure are avid readers.Maturity in writing comes through good amount of reading. I like to read as well like many others.

    I could not be as good a writer, if I did not read as much as I do. The more you read, especially the "classics" and the variety of genres that you read really boosts your vocabulary, which helps when you write. Also, it exposes you to a variety of styles, which helps you develop your own style because you have personally seen what works and what doesn't. I think it is absolutely germane to writing to be as avid a reader as you can be.
