   What are the chances of two dark haired, dark eyed parents having a blue eyed, blonde haired child?
   
   Father has a distant relative that has blue eyes, but his mother and father both have dark hair and dark eyes.  The mother's father is blue eyed, but she is not.

   It happens all the time. You have to look at the maternal and paternal grandparents and see what their eye color is.
   
   My mother in law had hazel blue eyes and each of her three kids had a child with her eyes and all three of her kids have her husband's brown eyes.

   Assuming that blue eyes and blond hair are recessive traits, there is a 25% (or 1 in 4) chance for each trait that any pair of parents would produce a blue eyed, blond haired child even if they both have dark hair and eyes. This is because every parent has 2 sets of genes, and for the most part only the dominant trait is expressed. When the parents mate and make a child, the child gets one set of genes from each parent. If each parent carries the recessive (not expressed) trait for blond hair and blue eyes, then the child can indeed have light hair and eyes even though the parents do not. Since you mention a sort of genetic family history that includes these traits at some point on each side, I would say it is possible but it also depends on the dominance of the traits for hair and eye color, of which I am not certain.

   It is a rarity but it is possible for two dark-eyed brunette parents to have a blonde haired, blue eyed child.   This is based upon that a distant familial ancestor possess traits of being blonde haired and blue eyed.     Also, another explanation is that there are recessive genes as well as dominant genes.   Even though they may be no blonde haired, blue eyed ancestors to speak of, both dark-eyed brunette parents can have a blonde haired, blue eyed child based upon these recessive traits.

   my wife's parents have dark hair/eyes, the first two came out Hitler approved, last one not so much, luck of the draw(or stroke of luck) I guess

   The Chances are slim but it is possible. A while ago, in africa or America - 2 Africans gave birth to baby who had blue eyes..... very surprising.
