    Theory #1: Hub really is short for Hubbard as in L. Ron Hubbard because of all the damn Scientology ads all over my hubs.

    Theory #2: Hubpages started in India because of the huge Indian constituency here and all of those Sexy Indian Aunties photo hubs. What's up with that?

    1: Why don't you edit your competitive ad filter in AdSense to block ads you don't support, like the rest of us do?

    2: I think you prefer making up stories over reading the about us page.

    I think it was started when a few people got together and figured out how to make some money.  It is the result of very clever and net savvy people.  More power to them.
