   Needless to say, it seems that a large number of the questions I'm seeing (by the same blocks of people) are geared at merely getting another accolade for answering/asking questions.

   No certainly not. I read on the hubpages forum that accolades do not get you any extra traffic or money. Someone said and I quote "accolades are just to boost the hubbers ego". I totally agree with this and thereby never do anything on HP to get accolades. I participate in the community because I enjoy it.

   I hardly ask or answer questions..i was just bored. but most people ask because the want the accolade, or want to be noticed, or need followers, or just checking out the pulse of the reader..which I used to do... most question are copied or duplicated with minor changes from other forums making this exercise meaningless.

   Not really when it comes to answering questions, I'm here to answer questions to genuinely help out folks who have unanswered questions.
   
   Now when it comes to asking questions, yes I do do it  to get the accolades though, because for the most part I usually know the answers to the question I've asked. 
   
   That's not the only reason for participating in the Q&A area for me, I also enjoy reading peoples answers as well as questions to see who's who, and who I might wanna follow next based on their logic & reasoning when answering or asking specific question of interest.

   I might even throw in a few hub views for you too, because I also love reading the hubs of people who ask the best questions and provide exceptional well thought out answers as well.

   Well, since you get an accolade only when you get answers to your questions, I will say I admire your honesty and get you one more answer so you can get your accolade.

   To answer your question, I answer questions when I am bored. I already have an answers accolade and I don't care what number is on it, since it doesn't affect my earnings.
   
   I am missing a couple answers to get the question badge, so I am trying to think of a question that will get me that accolade.

    The accolade is just a bonus. The main reason why one should answer a question is to help the questioner, in return, the questioner might get pleased and follow you out of gratitude or out of just being impressed by your answer. It also gives you exposure to the whole HubPages community and hopefully gains you merit.
    The benefits are plenty with or without an accolade. The accolade is just a bonus, you see.

    I am not one who asks/answers questions on a continued regular basis. Some questions I genuinely answer (like this for example); some I answer out of devilment; some I answer sarcastically. But never to gain an accolade.

    I pretty much don't ask any questions.  I answer questions when I'm bored or tired on here and/or when I'm bored or tired on here and can't find anything at all interesting in the forums.   I don't care about accolades.

    Most of the times I genuinely want to answer or ask questions. Yes, it fels nice to get accolades for that. BTW, being on here gets followers for sure.

    I answer questions in order to help the person who asked it; knowledge is meant to be shared and is a great gift to the recipient because, after all, knowledge is power. I _only_ answer questions if my answer adds to the previous answers (or, of course, if I am the first/only person to answer). I _never_ post simply to receive an accolade. I do like the accolades because, well, hey who doesn't like recognition for his/her work? I also like them because they do, psychologically, help me stay active on the site and keeps me honing my skills.

    I would say accolades is one of the reason, but besides that I answer the question for which I am good and it helps other hubbers, which is important for me.

    I did the first time. Now I do it because I get ideas from other hubbers as well as read other answers to question I don't know anything about. I've actually learned a lot by reading others peoples questions and answers.

    I answer the questions (like yours!) that pique my interest or are similar to questions that are rattling around in my mind but I haven't asked. I'm finding I'm learning lots of valuable information by reading these questions and answers. Good luck on getting your accolade:)

    I'm going to tell you a secret... accolades aren't real.  They are little collections of pixels that don't really mean anything.  You can't buy food with accolades.
    
    I would hope that satisfying intellectual discourse was its own reward.
