The Mayan Calendar was based on two numbers 13 and 20 and when multiplied together made 260. this was thought to represent the female gestation cycle. The length of the Mayan long calendar was 5125 years for one cycle. The first calendar cycle is due to end 21/12/2012

The Mayan calender was instituted in 3113 B.C.E.By TOTH of the Egyptian pantheon who became the plumed serpant GOD to the Mayans.

Actually we use the same time structure as the Mayans. What we know of their astrological studies is how we base our 24 day. Throughout history mankind has changed time but it pertained to changing the numbers and not the day. This was incorporated by Julius Caesar who added July (after himself) & August (after his step-son) Augustus the first emperor Rome. When Caesar did this he didn't change the weekday, rather he made Thursday the 13th and the following day Friday the 28. Caesar did this to introduce the leap year which is in fact a Roman-Catholic effort. Now I bring Caesar up because no one in time changed time but him but he didn't changed the day so we til this day live on the Mayan astrological understanding of the universe. Our horoscope signs was something the Mayans brought upon us. Much of what we know pertaining to solar eclipse, galactic eclipse and other galactic activities they knew to a precise pattern. The time structure that we use today is the ones the Romans made for us and the Mayan calender is a silhouette thereof. It began 4-5 thousand years ago.

Hello, the simple answer is no, our time structure is not Mayan.

Our time structure, if you mean Western (US, European, or any part of the globe related to those regions) is based upon astronomical observations and mathematics laid down in Sumeria and Mesopotamia (Now Iraq)  about 6,000 years ago.

Since there was no proven link between the Afro-Eurasian continent and the Americas until after 1,000 CE, Probable Viking settlement of the Atlantic coastal provinces of Canada, and it is a long way from those provinces to Central America where the Mayans lived, and the vikings of the 11th Century would have not used a modern calendar and arrived about 4,000 years after the Mayan calendar was calculated. there is little chance of the Mayan calendar being related. Mayans therefore would have created their own calendar independently from "Old World" peoples.

Plus remember the present European based calendar is not the only system in use today, there are Muslem, Jewish and Chinese calendars also in use though the Western calendar is more commonly used for purposes of trade and business.
