Why does my 2 month old stretch until she makes herself ill and how can we break her of the habit?
When she was about a month, she started stretching when we woke her up for a diaper change & food. It became more frequent & intense to the point that she makes herself sick to her stomach!
We thought it was because she had gas or was hungry. Sometimes these things were true, but not always. Someone suggested that it was just for attention and to ignore her, but she continues until she gets sick. Sometimes she stops when we pick her up, but other times she won't. There doesn't seem to a single cause and we don't know how to stop her from doing this. Anyone have experience with this?
This definitely sounds like colic issues. I've a hub on colic, http://nicolewinter.hubpages.com/hub/Wh … -Has-Colic and if she's stretching like this, she's trying to get relief from her gas pains. Try laying her down on her back while she's stretching, putting your hands under the soles of her feet and pushing against her... then, when you have a good tension going push her feet into a "peddling a bicycle motion," for 5-10 minutes. After that, move her into a position of being flat on her stomach and rubbing her back for 5-10 minutes, then try burping her again. If she continues to do this, I would definitely bring it up at her next pediatric appointment, in case the doctor has some further insight on this. He'll probably say it's colic, so make sure you tell him the remedies you've been using for colic, letting him know that there could be something more to it. He may want to switch her formula to something else, too, so be prepared for that.
Furthermore, I'm not sure who told you to ignore her when she does this, but I wouldn't listen to their child-rearing advice anymore. I don't mean to be harsh, but *anything* your two-month old baby is doing needs to be addressed and needs your concern and attention. A two-month old baby doesn't know how to "get your attention" in the way that they're saying, as manipulative as infants may seem, they cannot do this. Hell, a two-month old child shouldn't *have* to do this, they should be getting constant attention.
It does sound like colic. First let me address the "someone" who claimed she was doing it for attention. That is utter nonsense. A 2 months old baby cannot get enough attention and no amount of holding or attention giving is going to spoil this child.
But to be safe, check with your pediatrician if she is making herself sick doing it. She may have some genuine discomfort in her tiny gut or gas up under the ribcage but please don't assume it is nothing and please have her checked out.
It could be a sensitivity to breast milk, or formula - any number of things. Best to ask the doc.
Please Rosa, ask your Pediatrician. I would take her to the doctor right away if it were me. That kind of behavior is too much for a two month old who is yet to learn how to hold her neck straight for a while. She is not doing it intentionally, her body sounds like it is reacting to something. Please let me know what you find out or if she stops doing that. Best wishes.
Not to alarm you, but I would get her examined soon. My daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis by a perceptive doctor early on, wore a brace for years, and eventually had some very serious surgery. She is fine now at age 23, but the sooner illnesses are diagnosed, the better the results can be.

How do I prevent my bras from stretching out over time?I currently own two quality bras (from Victoria's Secret). I was professionally fitted for these, and they fit perfectly when I bought them. I wash them only when needed, and use a special garment bag when doing this. I never put them in the...
