I'm reading more "period" pieces. Just finished THE ALCHEMIST'S DAUGHTER and now I'm in the middle of THE DARCY CONNECTION.
I am re-reading old books now. I read Count Belisarius by Robert Graves, which made me start reading Procopius' histories.
Just finished "On The Road" by Jack Kerouac, now started on "Mr Nice" by Howard Marks. On The Road is a little dated, a lot of what was relevant in the 50s is old news these days, but it was well worth reading. I hear many people draw comparisons to Hunter Thompson, and I didn't see it myself, totally different styles if you ask me. Thompson uses sarcasm and wild stories to catch your attention, and Kerouac uses elaborate metaphors and similes to impress readers. Overall I thought Thompson comes across as more honest and Kerouac more pretentious, but I am sure that opinion will not be popular with most.
I am all over the place, from a cozy mystery to dystopian to paranormal. Whatever my mood is for the day to be honest.
reading "A thousands splendid suns" by Khalid Hosseini amazing piece of writing i must say.... only the hardest of hearts could fail to move...its most of a powerful portrait of a woman suffering and endurance under the Taliban...
masterpiece...
I just finished reading "The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me About Life And Wealth" by Richard Paul Evans. Excellent, and I am reading it a second time.
I am a loyal fan of Richard Paul Evans. I think one of his first books was "The Christmas Box" (I've read that too). He is now doing a series of five books. The first one is "The Walk" (2010); the second..."Miles To Go" (2011) which is a continuation of the first book. The 3rd book of the series comes out May 8, 2012 "The Road To Grace." It is written in first person, which I love, and it's about a man who is walking from Seattle, Washington to Key West, Florida.
His books truly uplift and inspire me. I am also currently juggling two other books, "Riches Within Your Reach" by Robert Collier and "Every Day A Friday" by Joel Osteen.
I cannot stress enough how important I find it to read inspirational books. It strengthens my love of life. Reading about others' mistakes, experiences and lessons they learned from their circumstances confirms how human we all are, and how we can always start over, and share what we have learned.
Thanks for a great question from this hubber who just loves to read! Blessings, Sparklea
Psychology, Medical Transcription and Terminology, Forensic Science, paranormal romance, and dark romance. Yep, weird combination. But very inspirational and educational possibilities here.
I recently read the Hunger Games series and loved it! I was hesitant because it is somewhat of a teen craze, but the underlying themes in the books are deep and thought provoking. They are an easy read but will stick in your mind. I was also attracted to the strong, independent female lead.
I've just started reading A Princess Of Mars, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Inspired really by seeing the John Carter trailers! Very good so far!
I've just started the Dresden Files series, which I would recommend to fans of fantasy and crime fiction.
