Why do men stop dancing as they get older - when you go out as a couple?
In my teens and 20s - plenty of young men on the dance floor. But now, say at a wedding, men in their 30s, 40s, 50s and so on just sit - unless they are drunk. Why not keep dancing?
When you're young, dancing is an excellent way to pick up girls.
Probably because they are intimidated by the younger, fresher, sexier and more profesional dancers, the sort of people who excel in it either for the pure pleasure of it or for helping them pick up girls. Whether or not picking up girls with the dirty dancer image is their main purpose or a most-welcome side benefit of their talent, they do get those girls actually, so the elders don't really wanna take the risk of humiliation anymore, especially now that they must hold onto and preserve the veteran charisma. Or.. they don't really care anymore.
That is very good observation
I personally know men in their 50s and 60s and 70s who really boogie on the dance floor, they are very energetic, always. I have noticed that those men don't have problems. This didn't sound right... lol They are very open and outgoing, their personal live is perfect and all they do is enjoy life as it is.
Personally I think why men don't dance is because they have problems pile up over the years that's why they are stressing and dancing can keep them away from figuring our the problems, so what they do is think and socialize.
I think that most people age and unfortunately they give into the social pressure that they must maintain specific imagery of eldership. In American society, the popular culture does not support older men expressing themselves through dance. Most older males are interested in what they used to do like sports and many become armchair sports men.
