What is the real reason Marijuana is illegal?
Here in North America?
The drug market is controlled by a nefarious group more sinister than any have imagined- the Satanists.
They control all major branches of government. To fund their secret operations, they operate clandestine operations. Some of the funding comes from patents. Other money comes from drug sales. A small finger of this was exposed during the Iran-Contra affair.
When the Taliban ruled in Afghanistan, they oppressed poppy growing (used for cocaine) and the drug business was severely hampered. Now that the CIA is back in, the drug business is greater than ever.
If growing drugs was legal, local farmers would grow it. Their business monopoly would suffer.
Poppies are used in the manufacture of heroin, not cocaine.
Just sayin'.
Honestly? Because the government would lose money in it being legalized. As long as it's illegal, they can continue to charge out rages prices for being in possession of it, as well as taxing the tax payers more for keeping those convicted of the possession in prison.
Politics?
It is an excellent question:
--Marijuana is less harmful than alcohol,
--taxing it would bring in additional revenue for the local, state and federal governments,
--the government would save additional millions on enforcing laws against it, criminals would no longer profit from it,
--law enforcement officials would not be placing themselves in harm's way as they try to enforce it.
-- it would be necessarily be safer (from pesticides, additives, etc.) because of FDA oversight,
And that from someone who does drink but does not smoke it.
I don't know, although it seems pretty abritrary. You could make a cood case, after all, that alcohol is far more damaging and addictive. I often wonder if our drug laws would be different if Jesus turned an everyday weed into marijuana rather than changing water into wine. It's hard, I guess, to call a substance completely evil when the supposed Son of God ran his own miraculous, private still.
I can't tell you why marijuana is illegal, but I can say that it is mind-alterning and should not be encouraged. That said, illegal is nothing like unattainable. I actually think sometimes people flock to the illegal things more than the legal things because there is that desire to rebel. And that desire to rebel is first generated by a desire to be a badass. Which, I think, is yet still generated by a desire to get respect. Of course, there are those that just love getting high, too.
Marijuana is useful for treating pain and the nausea and vomiting that are side effects of cancer chemotherapy and for restoring the appetite in people with AIDS.
Marijuana lowers testosterone levels and sperm counts in men and raises testosterone levels in women. In pregnant women it affects the fetus and results in developmental difficulties in the child.
and regular use can result in dependence, that's why! very addictive.
Back in the early 1900s, William Randolph Hearst Had a monopoly on the paper industry which was made from wood. Someone came along and started manufacturing paper from hemp. This was a threat to the Hearst empire and he funded and introduced it to the government to outlaw because people were smoking hemp and going insane. If you read about Hearst, you will see he was very instrumental in the movie production of " Reefer Madness" which convinced the public to pressure government to make it illegal. It worked.
Politics. It is easy not to get addicted to weed. The way you breathe it in. Doesn't feel right. The first time you get ghosted? Feels horrible and that you cannot control yourself while you melt into the couch. Someone didn't like the feeling or the possibilities of weed since it would change many businesses and society. So it was cast out. It's kind of easy to see.
It is a longstanding issue involving lobbyists who work for the big pharmaceuticals, tobacco and alcohol, big oil and pulp and paper. Here is the reasoning behind this. Big pharmaceuticals stand to lose a lot in drug sales if THC, cannabis and like substances end up replacing a lot of their products simply because it is more effective in treating various diseases and conditions. Among these diseases are ones like arthritis, cancer, various nerve diseases, nausea and others. This could impact a lot of drug sales. Tobacco and alcohol would be impacted by the competition. Big oil surprisingly, would lose a lot to the sale of hemp fiber in the way of manufacturing of clothes and rope. Pulp and paper relies on trees and lumber for the magazine, newspaper and housing industries. One acre of hemp production would equal four plus acres of trees, which require no more work than harvesting. In this case, it is a cost issue. On the positive side, hemp could easily supply all of our paper and building needs without having to clear cut places like the Amazon. These are already well established companies and they wage a secret lobbying war to keep marijuana, the source of a lot of benefits, illegal.
Marijuana is mind altering - causes paranoia - it can make you addicted. It encourages more usage and going to more high enducing drugs. It can be introduced into a home where children and animals are breathing the effects of the drug. The uses of hemp for clothing and food and treating Cancer patients is all well and good, obviously. When it is bought on the street as a lesiure drug - people don't know what has gone into the content. There are some real reasons why Marijuana is still illegal.
If government controlled, you wouldn't buy it off the streets and there would manufacturers for it to keep it pure. That not with standing, Marijuana Does NOT cause Paranoia and is no more addicting or mind altering than alcohol.

I personally think it is ridiculous that it's not allowed. But according to polls the majority disagree with me! Surely there must be somebody on here that favors the outlawing of marijuana. Tell me why!

I believe the effects of marijuana is not what the government is afriaid of. A study shows that by removing the crop from consumption, a considerable amount of GDP would be affected in the country creating an inbalance with no way to satify filling the gap. European countries have...

I would just like to read different opinions on why marijuana is illegal. I don't personally see anyting wrong with smoking marijuana even though i've never actually tried it. I don't know why alcohol is acceptable when it causes more harm than good to an individual. From my observations, when a...
