U.S. House Passes Bill to Legalize Marijuana

   The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act (MORE) removes Marijuana from the list of controlled substances and eliminates criminal penalties for an individual who manufacturers, uses, possesses, or distributes marijuana. 
   
   It passed 220-204 today
   
   What are your thoughts?  Is this good or bad for America?  Is it long overdue?  Or is it a tactic to buy votes in the midterms with so many negatives occurring simultaneously in the nation?

      Its like with alcohol. It will cause great, great suffering, but there's no way to legislate it. And no reason to, apparently. Never mind the deleterious effects of the crap.

         But, just ask Colorado about the problems they are having with the industry.
         Green house gases and water depletion are two problems which result from growing it on pot farms. Will legalizing it help these negative environmental effects?

         No but the laws against it have put many innocent people, who were hurting no one, into jail because they were growing a couple plants on their property or in possession of a small amount on their persons, etc.
         
         Alcohol is a more deadly and dangerous "drug" in truth, and this plant should be treated no worse than it is.

      It should be legal to grow, carry, possess, smoke, cook, etc.
      
      It should not be legal to operate a vehicle or heavy equipment, etc. while under the influence.

   I could no more oppose this than I could have supported the Volstead Act.
   
   It is just another intoxicant added to the mix, but I can see no reason to treat it any differently from my Jack Daniels bourbon.

      Alcohol leaves the body quickly. The metabolic after-effects of pot remain for up to two weeks. Pot today, is way strong. Ingesting it causes, (hopefully temporary) self-induced mental retardation. As a sub, thats what I would tell high school students who asked me what I thought about pot.
      
      I also don't advocate drinking alcohol because it can become addicting.
      Is there something wrong with how God made our bodies/minds?
      Is there something wrong with society that some people end up relying on these substances to unwind?
      
      Maybe.

         But even Jesus drank wine, yet did not get drunk. In small and reasonable amounts, it can have sedative effects.
         
         Escapism is part of the human condition. Caffeine and nicotine are addictive. Even Fred Flintstone had his Cactus Cola. Excess food consumption can be addictive. You would be hard pressed to find anyone that TRULY lives without any form of addiction.

         Its effects on people vary.
         
         People I knew who were completely incapable of socializing or functioning when "sober" were the smartest person in the room when "high".
         
         Its affects to help people with ADD, ADHD, Autism, have only begun to be explored but many positive research results are already in.
         
         It is a plant.  If you want to talk about God, well God put it on this earth for some reason.  Just like so many other remedies that grow naturally that we have gotten away from, especially in America, because the Big Pharma industries and Doctors can't make money off you if you are treating your ills with plants you can grow in your own backyard.
         
         Herbalism and Herbalists were a primary means of treating most minor injuries and illness until the start of the 20th century, in 1904 the Council on Medical Education was formed, herbal and other medical traditions became discredited. In turn, this ultimately forced Eclectic and Homeopathic colleges to shut down completely, including women’s and African-American colleges (Southwest School of Botanical Medicine, n.d.), etc.
         
         Due to the work of the American Medical Association, medical level herbal education in North America collapsed. During this time period, more than half of all American medical schools merged with large universities or shut down altogether. Eclectic, physiomedicalist, women’s, and African-American colleges were all forced to close and only the minority of schools that were teaching “orthodox medicine” were able to remain open.
         
         In short this created "modern medicine" at the expense of a wealth of knowledge on how to treat a variety of ills with simple plants that could be commonly found.
         
         It wasn't until the 1990s that herbal remedies really began to make a come back. The American Herbalists Guild (AHG) a non-profit educational organization that represents the goals and voices of herbalists specializing in the use of medicinal plants was founded in 1989.   Unfortunately it is still considered "crackpot medicine" by the majority of Americans who have been indoctrinated to believe over the counter chemical medicines and prescriptions are the only ways to treat an ill.

         Coffee is more addicting and deadlier than marijuana.
         
         How it gotten approved in Canada is because they compared Holland schedule 2 marijuana to Canadian 1 schedule laws. And studies showed the Dutch teenagers smoked 50% less than the Canadian teenagers in numbers. Resulting in legalization  marijanna  males it safer and less teenage users.

         Have you ever used?  Your comment sound like someone with no experience - I know hundreds of super successful and highly intelligent people who smoke - my wife beat cancer using the concentrate, and she didn't have any side effects - actually it made chemo much easier to stand and greatly reduced the pain.

   Criminalizing marijuana use was a waste of police time and resources. Having said that, overuse of the stuff can have fairly serious side effects. But, on the other hand, controlled use can help cancer patients manage pain.
   Don't touch it myself, but I don't see anything wrong with sensible consumption.
