What is the greatest sport played in the United States?
We have football, baseball, soccer, basketball, etc... What do you think is the greatest sport in the United States and Why?
Professional bull riding is the greatest sport played in America. The bull wins most of the time.
One sport wins hands down, guy. Presidential year election campaigning! Where else can you find such outstanding entertainment and view it all on your telly for free?
Oh, wait you asked about greatest sports. Well, some of the candidates do apply but for contact sports I would suggest football - very popular!
He can't disagree he's dead, i'm sure aaron burr would agree with me.
No doubt it has to be football...so American and AWESOME.
Growing up I would have answered this question Baseball, without doubt. But the older I get the more my taste changes. My love for the past few years has been Hockey. Much like soccer, Hockey needs to have the highly skilled players move forward in such a manner that they work as one single minded unit. Offense and defense intermingle so much so that sometimes you can't tell which player is playing which position. But what puts Hockey over Soccer for me is that it is played on ice. This gives the game the speed and fast paced action that makes is so exciting to watch. Even if you don't understand all of the rules of Hockey, you just have to love the speed of the skaters, the skill of the puck handling and the violent hits that occur because of the nature of the game. Yes, there are some fights as well but I can take them or leave them. I love Hockey, specifically the Los Angeles Kings and at this point of my life, feel it is the greatest sport played in the US today.
I think football because nearly everyone can relate to it and has a favorite of some sort. It brings America together.
Major league baseball games and the NBA's basketball games really pick up viewership when the playoffs in the post season start. But today no sport in the United states rivals the the fascination of the National football league (NFL) in both the regular season or the post season.
Although I also enjoy basketball and football, I'd have to say baseball is the greatest U.S. sport. I think it's the fairest sport in more than one sense. For one thing, even though there's teamwork involved, it's up to every person to deliver. No one gets double teamed or blocked. Sure, someone can bat for you, but once they do you're out of the game. It's the only team sport I can think of that does't use a clock. Each team has it's chance. The leading team can't hold the ball and let time expire. Also, baseball has a great international mix among its participants.
Baseball has longevity but I think football has surpassed because the sheer intricacies of the game are much deeper. The seasons are shorter, more frantic, physical and constant chess matches between players and coaches. The fact that ever season sees tight playoff and championship games only solidifies its status.

While it is famous worldwide, soccer is low in the ranks of favorite televised sporting events by most. Why? Should soccer get more American publicity?

What is the greatest sports game you ever watched? It doesn't matter what the sport is: football, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey or golf. Fans have seen a game or match that they believe to be the greatest ever played. Which one is yours?
