What do you look for in a movie review?
the story or the whole movie summed up? or what else?
Number one thing I look for is the story overall. A movie is nothing without a good story, no matter how good the special effects and acting is. Obviously those things really add to a movie, but the number one thing that makes a movie a classic is a very good story.
I personally believe that some good movies are the ones with the lowest budget because they really focus on the story. I try to give every movie a fair chance and only compare them to similar movies.
I believe it's a difficult art to write a well balanced review, I would say that as I 've tried to do it myself!
The think the trick is to give the reader as much backgorund as you can without giving too much of the plot away, you should want the reader to go and see the film!
The bulk of the review should be given to how the reviewer feels the film has been acted, scripted, directed etc. If the story has been translated from a book or novel, has the film been able to convey that same message and treated the characters in the same way that the author did.
I have found that after reading some reviews by certain people, you will start to develop a feeling for whether or not you think along the same lines and there fore will agree or disagree with their interpretation of what they are writing about.
I actually look for a critical review of the plot structure and subject matter. How are the characters drawn? How thinly or how fully? Are the characters fully fleshed-out or mere caricatures? Did the director(s)/writer(s) seem to have respect for the characters?
Was the story coherent? Did it make sense, in other words?
Secondarily, I suppose, I would be interested to know how the movie is paced. Is it fast-paced or slowly, languidly paced?
Incidentally, there is this movie review show I found on the Internet called 'What the Flick?" Its a lot of fun. The reviewers really know what they're doing; its informative; and as I say, the show is fun to watch in and of itself.

I look for a summation of plot and character. Sometimes I want to hear about the actors' performances as well as the writer's opinion of the movie. I'd prefer not to get bias based off of actor choice, but an overall examination of how well the movie was executed. Was it confusing? Was it too long? Was it just plain stupid? I want to know!!
We are reading movie review for movie idea like theme (action, romance,Drama).
A successful movie review must explain the basic plot and characters without spoiling anything about the movie. A review should also be unbiased, and should respect that a film might not be for everyone. It should include what audiences may like the film, and which audiences may not enjoy it all that much.
The first thing I want to know is who are the stars of the movie and how well they performed? Then I just read to see if the reviewers liked the movie or not.The other thing I look for is a bad review. For some reason, if reviewers hate a movie, I'm going to like it. I love corny movies, not sappy ones because I don't want to cry. That's not most reviewer's cup of tea.

It would be a mix between new and old movies from different genre's. I was curious if anyone thought movie reviews...
