   What do you call a person who has a habit of answering a question with another question?
   
   Or how would you describe him/her in 2 words max.

   I'd call them:
   
   question dodger, manipulator,  blame deflector, or simply passive aggressive
   
   I could go on and on. That's a huge pet peeve of mine.

      thanks. there's a term for that in our language, but when translated in English somehow loses its context, hence this question.

      That's really interesting. I will study linguistics and second language teaching in the fall so i'm a nerd about that stuff.
      
      English doesn't have one word for that. "Retort" is close but isn't a noun to describe a person and can be a compliment

   2 words max= "Question Questioners!"
   
   I would deem these people as "Contemplative Procrastinators". These people ask a question in the process of attempting to answer the question, possibly to gather further information from the original answer seekers motive, thought/feeling processes. This skill (if you'd like to call it that) also enables more time for the person to contemplate a more concise, accurate, or intricate answer.
   
   In some instances, people ask further questions to avoid having to answer an uncomfortable question, or one that may be over their head. There are too many people who are not honest enough to say that they don't know, or don't know, but are willing to find out. If something is too personal, say so! (Minding one's own business is still legal. LOL!)

      i would probably agree with you, if the answers these "question questioners" gave didn't sound like they were merely uncertain or were contemplating. more often they're smart alecky (smart alec is the closest i could get, but i found it too broad).

   I tried to type a one word answer but HubPages tells me that answer is too short so I had to type all of this junk too. lol
