What is the most handy travel accessory to have when you're on the move?
According to the HItch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the one thing that no one should ever leave home without is a towel. It does not need to be fancy, just a towel. It can be used for a variety of things including a pillow when folded up, a blanket, you can dry off with it, if you lose your clothes you can wrap up in it. The towel is also handy for some not so obvious reasons. You can use it as a lasso to grab hold of a tree branch and swing to safety. You can use it as a carrying bag when you find what you are looking for. You can use it to grab and turn the handle of your cell when you are being held captive. etc... I am sure you can see just how handy it is to have a towel with you at all times.
I loved that movie! But I would say these days it is the laptop or smartphone. With GPS, emergency calling, email, and the apps for eating, drinking, and doing things, nothing can replace a smart device granted there is an available signal.
Or a sarong which is lighter - I make sure I always take one with me .
Overall, a GPS unit is probably the most useful. Unlike a cellphone, you don't need cellphone towers for it to work; you don't have to worry about network compatibility. A GPS is excellent for helping you figure out how to get around in an unfamiliar environment.
water ...water and water...it is for me is the most handy thing in a travel.
My most handy travel accessories (I have more than one) are my walking stick (a lovely and most helpful one too), my hunting knife, tent and sleeping bag. I can go anywhere with those! : )
P.S. The car helps too lol
My smart phone has everything I need to get me where I'm going (as long as there is a signal lol), my passport, water, and I like the towel idea..how clever :-)
When most people think that cell phone is the most handy travel accessory I think that all I need is ... a lot of cash...
Your camera
Hubbing inspiration and a way to truly capture the beauty of where you go
Thats the first thing that came to my mind when I read the question lol !
I think my 'travel accessory' of choice would be my laptop. I see it as essential! And besides my passport and credit card, it would be the last item I would give up if told I could only travel with two or three things.
I think that the best thing to have is a universal plug. I have been caught out so many times in the past that I always take one with me on holiday now. It's no good having a ton of gadgets if you can't plug them in or charge them up!
Always a handy accessory for the gadget savvy traveller! I've probably bought about 10 over the years, very easy to forget when moving around a lot!
A backpack. Your hands are free and the weight is spread evenly.
Undoubtedly the single most handy thing is my swiss army penknife. However, my 'man bag' contains everything I need overall - notebook, pen, pencil, tablets, novel, maps, camera, loose change, SWISS ARMY PENKNIFE, spare batteries for things and lots of other goodies!
I've found the most important travel accessory is money + and a passport concealed in a travel pouch worn inside the clothing. Keep a daily amount of money handy in a purse or backpack, but keep what you need in case of emergency hidden and safe.
I'd agree, also it's always good to keep two sets of important documents with you, like travel insurance and copies of passports. One on you and one hidden away, like you say. Thanks for the comment.
My handy travel accesories are passport, money, toilet paper, water, swiss knife, small camera, pen, my diary and something to read. And of course a handbag or a backpack where I can put these things inside.
Well, besides all those electronic "must haves" we need, as well as snacks and water, the thing that has come in handy to me, especially when traveling with children, is a box of baby wipes, anti-bacterial wipes, or something like that. (When I was a kid they were called "Handy Wipes".) Not only do wipes clean hands and stuff, they also work well if something spills in the car on the plastic parts. Another great use of baby wipes while traveling or at home: keyboard cleaner.
I always carry a good travel book. That way I know what the top sites are and how to get to them. I like to know the history and some background information for what I am looking at so a travel book is useful.

Can you still travel if your US passport is expiring in 1 month? The question is not if we can enter to the other country, because we have dual citizenship. The question is "can we come back and re-enter the US with a passport expiring soon?".
