What do guys like to be called by a close female friend, or significant other?
Many men or boys call close female friends sweetheart, cutie, girly, darling, etc. I always feel awkward when I am addressed this way, because I never know what to say back. What do boys like to be called? I assume they don't like to be called "cute." What do I say?
I kind of think that guys like being called by pet names no matter what it is. Probably the same as ladies. It is just having the special name that makes us feel good. I'd have no problem being called "cutie". Another common one I hear for guys is "babe". I used to have a girl call me "dude" and I kind of liked it. If you want to get silly, go with something like "studmuffin". Honestly I think it is hard to go wrong. Just avoid "princess". That probably wouldn't go over too well.
You can always come up with unique nicknames as well. I call my nephew Jam Master Josh sometimes. It's pretty stupid, and I have no idea where it came from, but the spontaneous nature of nicknames is often what makes them interesting. I knew a guy who used to call me Scotch. Don't know why, but it made me feel kind of tough.
I think nicknames that are specific to the person are the best. It's like a little inside joke for the two of you. Do you think babe is a common name for guys? I'm hesitant to use it.
Interesting question, I have wondered the same thing sometimes. Another question I've had is if it makes a difference what their ex used to call them? I had an ex that called me by a particular nickname of mine and I imagine that if another man used it, I would be reminded of him.
Hmm. You have an interesting point. I will have to find out the names that I should not call someone. However, if I'm close enough to call someone a name, I would imagine they could tell me if I make them uncomfortable.
Exactly! Communication is so important, and I would hope that he would be able to tell me if it bothered him also.
Baby or honey is usually a good way to go and usually it comes naturally. Sometimes, over time, once you become more comfortable with a person, you will find your own nickname for your partner. Good Luck.
I agree with baby and honey, as long as you're older. I'm on the younger side though. Thanks for the suggestions, and the luck!
