Why/how is money evil?
people always say that money is the root of all evil so I would like to know why. obviously the money its self is not evil, but what it does to people can be. I want to know your opinions on the why exactly it is evil, what does it do that is so evil.
Probably because people are willing to do evil things to get money. People hurt others and even subject themselves to bad or hurtful things to get it.
People are evil, not the objects upon which they use, money being one such object.
You could reverse this around and say that Love is the root of all evil for love can breed jealousy, infatuation, and other such matters that see people kill for it or do evil deeds to obtain it just like money or some other object upon which they desire.
The root of all evil is irrationality.
As far as your money question read this I have referenced it many times in my own articles.

NOOOOO....THE LACK OF MONEY IS EVIL.If you can't pay for food or medicine then your up the proverbial creek.the more prosperous we have become, the less we have to worry about diseases, famine and war.
"Only After The Last Tree Has Been Cut Down
Only After The Last River Has Been Poisoned
Only After The Last Fish Has Been Caught
Only Then You Will Find That Money Cannot Be Eaten"
I do not think Money itself is evil. If one uses it for bad then it becomes evil. Then if uses bad means to get money then it becomes evil.
I think in the Bible it actually says "the love of money is the root of all evil". Many wealthy people use this as a get-out clause. They say, yes, I have millions while people are starving but I don't actually love the money and to prove it I give to charity at Christmas".
When the most powerful in a society put financial expedience over all other values, as is the case today, it does a lot of harm. It cascades down the ranks of society and all of the decent, caring values get flattened beneath an avalanche of selfishness and greed. That's my soapbox rant for today. Now I can relax and have a cup of coffee
Money isn't evil. It isn't the root of evil, either.
Some people claim that religion is evil or the cause of all the world's problems. They miss the point, too.
The real problem and source of evil in the world is ego. From ego springs all manner of bad motivation.
Ego thrives on self-righteousness and being right. Ego is the sense of entitlement in things. Ego is the source of the decision to suicide or to murder. Ego lusts and is proud. Ego is greedy, glutinous and lazy. Ego will act tired when one has performed an arduous task; it wants all to know of the hardship to elicit sympathy. Ego is a sponge of sympathy, but also a fountain of it. Ego is the victim and the perpetrator. Ego is the good Pharisee and the bad sociopath.
Money gives one a certain freedom and power. Ego loves these things. Without ego, money is merely a convenient tool, like a hammer or a spoon.
If a person could give up all their possessions and money, and yet create a Trillion dollar fortune, they may well not have any ego attached to their money. In that case, money could become quite good, even in a divine sense. Someone who can ask God for anything and get it, needs no money, but can have all the money in the world.
That's the difference between being at effect (ego; the problem) and being at cause (spiritual true self; the solution). Humility is the antidote to ego. Humility graciously accepts payment, but doesn't demand it, and never fears losing it.
Money is evil because it corrupts. The temptations it poses are very hard for people to resist. I once asked a rich man why wealthy people continue to invest, work, etc and he said it was because no matter how much money people have, they always want more.
Having money, then, become s a goal in itself. It becomes the reason for functioning, and it becomes an obsession. With money comes power. Ever wonder why rich people get things given to them but poor people have to pay for those things? It's pretty clear.
Money is not evil. The love of money, or greed, is what is evil. Money can buy one a house, but not a home. Money can buy an education, but not common sense. Money can buy many things, but not knowledge, wisdom or true friendship. Money is a useful and, in today's society, a much needed resource. It just shouldn't be the motivation for why we do things. I could go on and on. Maybe I should write a hub about my thoughts on the subject.
Money is not evil, in fact the money itself, is worthless. It's the value society places on money that gives it power, and people who are too greedy for power will often abuse money.
The belief that money itself is evil or bad, keeps many people struggling with it when it is merely a tool. What the person does with the tool determines its good or evil. Evil people as well as good people use money to achieve their goals. I tend to focus on the good that can come from it
Money is evil because it is not honest money.
We are on Keynesian economic system, where debt is money. If we had sound money such as gold and silver, most likely this will be the case.
Sure if we had gold and silver, some people would try to steal, some people would be greedy, but the money would be worth something of value.
Our current dollar has lost 98% of its value over the last 100 years. Our purchasing power has gone down significantly. If I bought an item in 1913 for $100 dollars, today that item would cost $2,317.96. This is why money brings evil, because it holds no value. The people with the most money benefit, the people with the least suffer. If the money had value, people with less would still be able to live very comfortably.
Our spaceship Planet Earth would be a much better place without money, because money is the cause for wars, poverty, environmental destruction, corruption, the list goes on and on ... This planet can only survive without this criminal financial system which is destroying our wonderful spaceship.
I would say money is not the evil but it is the greed and circumstances of people which make them to do evil things for money........... sometimes due to circumstance they take wrong path for money, sometimes due to their hunger for fast money.
Exactly the money is the root of all evil. If you have enough money, then the inner part of your brain is going to be aggressive . Your simple and pleasure life will be disturbed. You look towards luxurious life. The money tease you to be addicted in drugs and alcohol to fulfil the requirements of high society. Money takes away the family life. No one will be sincere in family. Money divert the attention towards artificial life. You start to feel insecure and need people around you for the entertainment.
You will going to appoint guards , drivers , servants to feel secure . Money makes you proud and fanatic. Money push your maximum attention ,how to make more money. Your sound sleep , internal freedom , family life will be fully disturbed due to the cause of excessive money.
Money in itself is not evil but it is actually the way man handles the money,
When a man's intention and actions are driven with the desire to have more money, being greedy without considering the welfare of others, then it is the time that money has cause evil...
Money isan object some money is evil and it is cursed but that is few and far between -king tuts or black beards gold Judas' coins etc. in general it is humans greed for money and some peoples ways of getting money that is evil. But a rich man can be no less righteous than a penniless man. wealth does not corrupt greed corrupts, unlike absolute power corrupts abslutely absolute wealth does not absolutely corrupt

Do you have to be evil to be rich and successful? It seems like anyone that is successful is automatically scrutinized by media and the public in general as a person with a dark side. I realize it's next to impossible to be successful without stepping on someone along the way, but does that make you...

If money is the root of all evil, then what was the root of all evil before money was invented?

According to Malcolm Gladwell in his book, Outliers, the answer is no.Gladwell showed repeatedly that whether people who succeeded or not, depended a great deal on how much wealth and education their parents had. For example, children who have the benefit of a private school learn a lot of things...
