Marriage the New Dinosaur
In this day and age couples are putting off marriage; does this mean the wedding ring is becoming a dinosaur near extinction?
Not at all. There are over 2 million weddings that take place each year in the U.S. alone. Quite a few people have gotten married (more than once)! Worldwide I would imagine there may be close to 50 million people getting married each year in various towns, villages, and cities around the globe.
There will always be people who will want to get married if for nothing more than romantic sentiment. Marriage is here to stay.
I don't think so. I think what we're seeing now is a transition between a time when people just stayed in all kinds of horrible marriages because the idea of leaving was unheard of, and a whole lot of growing pains in society when it comes to knowing what makes a whole and healthy relationship and marriage that will last. I know that my own generation (second-wave Baby Boomer) was given some bad information about love and marriage, not just by parents but also by others in society. I, for one, have learned quite a bit; and I'm hoping that people like me (in my generation and the one a few years younger) will be able to share what we've learned with the generations that follow. Love isn't a species. It's one of those "fundamental things of life" mentioned in the song, "As Time Goes By" (theme from Casablanca).
(By the way, I write this as my very pretty mother-of-the-bride dress hangs not far from me, and I anticipate the late summer wedding of my daughter and her fiance.)
In this day and age, most people have no concept of commitment or even know what true love is about. To add to their woes, they have little concept of what marriage is really about. For most, it's just a guy and gal hooking up legally...until they get bored with one another. For gays, it's just a way to gain credence to their "life-style".
People use marriage for their own selfish purposes instead of honoring marriage for its intended purpose. This is to say that many people want marriage to bend to their will, instead of submitting to the will of God.
I believe that marriage is here to stay, but the purpose and definition of marriage has been run through the muck and mire. Too many little-league players want to be considered big-league players, but cannot handle life in the big-leagues, so they give marriage a bad rap through their irresponsible and indecent behavior.

Why do people get married young?I've noticed many of my friends, coworkers, and relatives getting married before they have graduated from college. I haven't seen the marriages progress far enough to have an opinion either way, but why is it that my generation seems to be getting married so young?

Divorce has become as "common as dirt", and it is very discouraging to encounter the number of broken families I see each day. I honestly believe many issues that lead to divorce can be resolved, but some people rather run rather rhan educate themselves so that they may have a healthier...

If you're married, think back to when you were newly engaged. What do you wish someone would have told you? If you're not married, feel free to throw out advice anyway. I love to hear different viewpoints and ideas on marraiage!
