When you buy a dozen eggs do you check that each egg is not broken or cracked before you buy?
I always stand there and check each and every egg before I buy a dozen. My theory is if I pay for a dozen I need a dozen. What about you? Do you pick up a dozen of eggs and put them in the cart or do you inspect each egg before putting in your cart?
I always open it up to look but I don't pick up each one seperately.
I pop it open and take a quick look. Occasionally I come across a friendly cashier who also checks the eggs while ringing it up.
Always. I open the box and wiggle the eggs, several at a time. It takes only a few seconds to check the whole dozen. If one is broken, it usually has glued itself to its pocket, so you can tell.
I wiggle each one as well. If there is a broken one and it doesn't stick, I'll switch it out with a good egg from a different carton. At my grocery store it seems every other carton has a damaged egg in it.
Of course I open the box and check for cracked eggs! Doesn´t everyone do that?!!! I do it because I don´t like to spend money on broken things AND because I try to avoid smearing all my groceries with egg.
Me too. I've seen people at the grocery store grab a carton of eggs and take off without checking them.
Yes.................................................................................
I always check. Cracked eggs are gross and a health hazard. A friend taught me a trick where you slightly touch each egg to make sure they aren't stuck to the carton. Then you know they aren't broken on the bottom where you can't see them.
That's a great idea because once an egg gets stuck to the carton, I don't see how they can be used.
I don't go through the box one by one, but I do open the box and look.
Don't we all check our eggs? With the price of everything going up you better believe that I will be checking those eggs to make sure none are broken what if I need to make a 12 egg omelet and we only have 11, that's a bummer!
I didn't used to. I grew up on a farm where we gathered our own eggs so I wasn't terribly familiar with grocery store egg-buying, but now I'm a little anal-retentive about it. I'll grab a carton, find a place to stand where I won't feel pressured to hurry, and pick each individual egg up and look it over. Any unusual discolorations that aren't dirt or gunk disqualifies the entire carton. It's totally worth the couple of minutes!! I've saved myself from buying several cartons of eggs that had one or more broken ones. Even if the carton costs just a dollar, if I'm not getting my money's worth, I'm not a happy shopper.
Of course. I go through and re-adjust the eggs making sure each egg is whole. My mother and grandmother both did the same thing. However, my partner had never heard of it and occasionally still continues not to do so.
I used to just open the carton and look until I bought a carton with a broken egg that was glued to the box, which couldn't be seen by just looking at it. Now I wiggle every egg one by one.
I wiggle each one too! If I pay for 12 eggs then I want to actually be able to use each egg.
yes I always check. Usually my hens provide enough eggs but if I need to buy I don't want to be paying for cracked eggs!
I bet those fresh hen laid eggs are much better than the supermarket eggs! I'm with you - if I pay for 12 eggs then I want my money's worth.
I always do, but recently I have seen some grocery stores in my area posting notices telling people that they are not allowed to open the cartons, but I completely disregard those notices because I feel like others who have answered. I feel like if I pay for one dozen then I should get one dozen.
I agree, I wonder why a grocer would post such a note about eggs. If you get home and open the carton and if one or more eggs is unusable, then you have to drive all the way back to the store for a refund, and that would be a waste of gas.
This just reminded me - I was in a supermarket once and myself and another woman were checking eggs and beside us was a young guy watching us and doing the same. After a few seconds, he turned to me and said, "Why are we looking at the eggs?" I guess he didn't do much shopping:)
I love this little story! The best form of flattery is mimicry, dontcha know? lol
I once saw a guy doing this in the store, but he accidentally dropped all the eggs
Oh bummer!! The thought of this happening has crossed my mind so I try to be real careful when handling those cartons.
I always check each and every one. It never fails that the first two cartons I check will have several broken eggs. Then it's just common curtsey to leave those cartons open with the broken eggs exposed so other people won't buy them. I would tell an employee about it, but there's never one around when I'm getting eggs.
Yes. I always make sure to move each egg individually because sometimes the eggs will be stuck and appear not to be cracked but when you get them home, they are stuck and you have to crack them in order to remove them from the box.
Of course I check. But it is not because of the count of how many eggs I'm getting...it's because a cracked egg is no longer in Mother Nature's "sanitary container." So yes, I look, AND I wiggle the eggs.
Spoilage bacteria can easily get in and cause you to become ill were you to eat that cracked egg.
If an egg cracks after I get it home, I make sure to find a way to cook it right away, or at least within that day. There are many ways to do this, whether hard-boiled, fried, scrambled, or added to baked goods or used for a breading batter.
you should check both.. bcuz if broken, its useless.. if cracked it could get worse while your loading groceries or something like that
I always check the eggs to make sure there are no cracks or breaks.

When you make deviled eggs, what do you do with the left over deviled egg mixture?Every time I make deviled eggs, I always have a lot of mixture left over. It seems like a waste to throw it away. How do you use your left over mixture?

Why do some vegetarians eat fish and eggs? I am a meat eater but have always curious about this. Wouldn't fish and other types of seafood be a meat? Wouldn't eggs be considered as an unborn chicken? I even know some people who claim to be vegetarians and eat chicken.

What is the difference between sunny side up eggs and over easy eggs?I'm allergic to eggs, so I really didn't know how to properly boil an egg (nor did I have any reason) until I met my fiance. Every time he asks me to cook him eggs in some weird named way (sunny side up, over easy) he normally...

Fresh Eggs: How Fresh is Fresh ?I was always told the fresher the egg the smaller the white...will spread while frying. I just cooked an egg bought in a supermarket yesterday and when I cracked it into the pan the white spread far and wide.
