   Do you think that art is a beneficial class to be taught in schools?

   Yes I do, children need to be able to have creative expression. These type of classes allow students to learn and create at the same time. There is a freedom that comes with creativity, most studies restrict ideas and expression.

   Yes. As a School Psychologist, I have found that students who are involved with music and art score higher in psycho-educational assessments. This may also be true because the families of these individuals emphasize educational achievement in the home. These students are more widely read, have greater opportunities for involvement in cultural activities, and have the resources to purchase art and music supplies for use in the home. Students who come from high poverty situations are less likely to be involved with art and music, and are also less likely to have an emphasis on education in the home. Their opportunities for cultural activity are limited, and the focus is on survival rather than learning and achievement.

   Absolutely yes!!  Not all students are academically inclined and the arts allow students to excell if they aren't doing too well in the regular classroom.  The arts also provide students will a well rounded education and introduces them to ideas and activites they may not normally be exposed to.

   By all means, it should be a part of every curriculum. It is a form of therapy at times and an outlet for kids to express themselves in ways using arts and crafts that they may not be able to do as well in writing or other ways in school. As a special educator for many years, I saw how some kids that flourished and actually did better in academics and increased their self esteem in taking art. Art, as well as music, should never be removed from a school's curriculum and is a vital part in many children's lives.

   Art and music definitely have a positive impact on students.  According to Harry Gardner, there is an artistic and music intelligence which varies from student to student.  A lot of students learn the best through art and music classes.  Art and music exercises can also be very beneficial as a means of teaching English.   a lot of medical students who are very good at anatomy are also very good at art and drawing.

   I think that children should be, and usually are, involved in art classes or art projects from an early age as well as in singing/musical performance. I also believe that children should have chunks of unscheduled time for imaginative play. This is a parent's job as well as an educator's. In high school however, art should be an elective rather than a requirement, or perhaps a single semester requirement in either studio art, music, choir, dance, or drama. Art History should be incorporated in World History if not offered on its own. University is the time for more comprehensive study in these things which are often subject to budget restraints at earlier levels..
