Are you the traditional meat-and-potato eater, or do you prefer something a little different?

Traditional meat and potato eater all the way. Except one of my favorite meals is Soup beans (Pintos), cornbread, fried potatoes, slaw, and fresh cut garden tomato. Great country eating.

Variety is the object. I love a good steak and baked potato, but only when that's the mood of the evening. Without being rigid about it, I try to cycle my dinners through the four F's: fauna, fowl, fish, and flora. Balance in diet is what you need.

You are right, Attikos.  balance IS the key.

I like side dishes more than meats, but I am still definitely a carnivore. I like lots of crisp, crunchy vegetables, but sometimes I just want a medium-rare steak!

Very reasonable, Georgie.  I consider myself pretty much a vegetarian, but I go off the beaten path upon occasion.

While I prefer and need meat, fish, and nuts for protein, I crave fresh fruits and veggies. I do enjoy potatoes but if I ate too many, I'm sure I'd gain weight.

I eat a lot of potatoes, Express.  It's all a matter of what you put on them, I think.  I have a great potato soup recipe, which is what I really enjoy.

Unfortunately for me, its a local-thing, I cannot seem to shake of the typical two scoop sticky rice, and one scoop mac-salad, with any choice of protien. However, I trade off every other month, one month, red-meat, next chicken, next fish, however, my fish is never fried, always grilled or steamed.

That sounds pretty healthy, though, benisan.

I try to eat the same foods that the pre-historic humans ate.  This is known as the Paleolithic diet as I have written about here...
    http://blissfulwriter.hubpages.com/hub/ … ithic-diet

That is meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, etc.  I avoid sugar, bread, pasta, neolithic new-age foods, processed foods, and other foods that my grandmother would not recognize as foods.

Although of course I am not a strict follower, but that is what I try to aim for.

Sugar, starches, and salt are supposed to be no-no's healthwise, I hear.  Sounds like you eat pretty well.

When I was growing up we ate meat-and-potato dishes pretty much every night, and  I still do sometimes when I go home to visit. Day to day, though, I prefer to stick to a more vegetarian diet, although it's not strict and I will occasionally sneak a bite of meat off of my boyfriend's plate. I love fish and eat it whenever I can, it is quite expensive though so I also eat a lot tofu and vegetarian food, for example vegetarian burgers or mince meat. I don't eat a lot of potatoes, I have to admit. I find whenever I make them myself they're never as good as what they are when my mum or my nan make them, so it's normally a bit disappointing. Instead I tend to eat rice, or sometimes pasta. I do eat a lot of vegetables as well.

Rebecca, I can only eat the Amy's gluten free burgers, ever try those?

I've never heard of it to be honest, is it available in the UK? It's probably not available in Germany, so I wouldn't be able to try it at the moment, the lack of vegetarian choices that we have here is really depressing.

Ugg.. This is a dilemma in our home. We usually eat meat and potatoes.  But I would prefer to sit down with a huge bowl of salad. My husband calls this rabbit food. Sometimes where I live in Brazil, it is difficult to get lettuce and other ingredients for salad. There is always someone slaughtering a cow or pig near-by though. The potatoes here, thankfully, are very good. The shops have normal and sweet potatoes and occasionally you can buy cassava.
If you care to look, I have written a hub about the processing of cassava. My husband, the carnivore, took most of  the photos.

I did look at the cassava article, thanks.  I enjoy a good salad myself, especially with romaine lettuce.
