Do you think it is right to lie, if that lie is said to make someone happy ?
There are many thing that we mostly have to lie for at times to make people happy and at times to avoid someone from being angry.. what do you think ?
If I lie just to make my customers happy, why not? SOmetimes, these lies are actually compliments which are not true. Most customers love to hear lies which they WANTED to hear.
However, if I lied because someone is ill, just to make the patient feel better, yes I would do that. It is painful to see him/her feeling miserable.
To lie in order not to make someone angry, depends on who that person is to me. If he/she is someone elderly, yes I would do it. Old folks are fussy and sensitive.
that is true i totally understand what you are saying as i have been through it... voted up
Lying is a complicated and very dangerous thing. I would avoid it at all times. Not telling someone something that will cause him great and unnecessary pain is another thing and we all have to do so sometimes. For example, when my mother became ill with a fatal cancer that would kill her in a very short time, I did not tell her of the illness. She was already suffering from so many other ills. But lying is another thing. No matter how innocent it may be, it will eventually catch up with you.
What you can do is go around the truth. For example, if your friend has lost too much weight or the opposite find an old picture where she looked better and say the following: "I think you have kept that beautiful glow you have all these years. I do miss the fuller version, thoug/the more vibrant you, though.
There is a difference between a "lie" and not being totally 100% honest. For example if someone in an ugly dress says "what do you think?" the first thing that pops into my mind is not going to be what I say. It would hurt her feelings to say "Oh my, that is the ugliest thing I have laid eyes on probably ever". That being said I shouldn't lie and say "Oh it's amazing" because well, it isn't. lol. This is where the fine art of tact/diplomacy come in. Rather than telling her it's ugly I might say something to the effect of - "It's interesting, but you know what I think would look amazing with your eyes? then name another suggestion for her... This way she understands I probably don't like her dress, but I have been gracious and not hurt her feelings. It's not OK to "lie" - but it's not ok to be so brutally honest that we hurt people either. I find people who are brutally honest tend to get off on the brutality more than the honesty. It's all about finesse in life and learning the art of telling the truth gracefully.

Hi everyone,Here's a thought...We have been taught to speak the truth, but it is right to do so in the cost of hurting/harming someone? Especially if that someone is a person we care for? It is one of the biggest dilemmas, what do you think?

What is your opinion on cheating? Is it right or wrong to tell someone you've cheated on them?I'm watching Dr.Drew's Life Changers and it is a very interesting question.

I've often been accused of being arrogant, and it's usually by people who disagree with me about something. I've noticed that some of my favorite historical personages have also been accused of arrogance. What exactly is arrogance? And is it always bad?Is there any non-pejorative way to say that...
