Well it honestly depends on the length of the poems, if they are short poems there should be more in the book.

Simba, it really does depend on a few things.

    1. length of the poetry
    2. size of the font you are using
    3. desired bulk of the book
    4. will there be photos or drawings to accompany the poems?
    5. what size it the book going to be?

If you go with a 9x7 sized book with 1 poem per page, a 200 page book would need 196 poems (you'll of course need a table of contents & such taking up the other pages)

If you go with a 9X7 sized book with a picture accompanying each poem, you would only need half of that.

Hi, we are relatively new to hubpages but spotted your question while trying to find some answers.

While researching for a poetry competition at the shop we came across lulu.com where you can publish a hardcover poetry book for free containing about 20 poems (depending on length) if you have one on each page - or 40 if you have two poems on each page depending on which format you decide to use, if the poems are quite short you can probably fit more poems in.  You are then able to sell the books at lulu.com for about £15 or £16 (GBP) which once costs have been removed you receive a small royalty payment.  Also, if you go to Amazon's createspace you can put a lot more poems in a paperback book, as well as make it available for kindle download and sell it through Amazon.

Here at Oxfam Macclesfield we are hoping to made a small profit for our cause by selling a hardcover book of poems at lulu.com and a paperback at Amazon and smashwords.  Please check out our first hub and vote on the poems entered into our 2012 poetry competition.  We will be running regular poetry competitions with different themes in a hope of making regular sales in order to make money for Oxfam.

Try to make one by hand made. Make your own desing. Print all your poems. Then organize the pages. Make your own book of poems. I am happy with 50 poems in a book.  I have one. They are beautiful poems. Some one  select them carefully to make a book.  Have your friends opinion and choose the best. To make sure people are going to buy the poems. Good luck  Mr. Simba73

I am also compiling a book.  Mine is broken into 7 chapters/sections with each section having about 10-12 poems.

I think 10 - 15 is best for a book though it depends on the sizes of poem also
