If they paid us to vote, what would be a fair price?

I got an email (didn't read it very carefully) that made it sound like a vote was worth $7.  I guess an hour at minimum wage might be about right.  I'm not asking what it would cost for you to vote for any particular candidate, just what amount would be sure to motivate you to get to the polls and cast a vote for someone?

What kind of question is that?  Voting is a civic duty and your vote isn't for sale.  Rather an outrageous question in reality.

Lots of people don't manage to do that civic duty - more than half if I remember the stats right.  So why is it wrong to ask what would get more people to show up a the polls?

When their last freedom and liberty is snatched out from underneath them then ask me that same question.

I guess I'm not really answering your question either, but isn't it a law that your employer must give you up to 2 paid hours to go vote on voting day? So, technically, you are being paid to vote! But The Frog Prince has a point too.

My employer has never paid me to vote. sad

But essentially you are saying your current hourly wage * 2 is a fair price then?

Not necessarily, but I thought there were laws protecting your right to vote. If you are scheduled to work on voting day, your boss has to let you go vote, but to pay you as scheduled. Someone might need to confirm this though.

A fair price for me would be amnesty for all and every illegal alien who hasn't committed a crime and has  a pristine record as is currently required to be able to become a legal permanent resident, and five years later a citizen.Oh WAIT, THATS OBAMA'S PLAN, i GUESS WE GOT A DEAL.

Hmmm... amnesty for 5 years worth of votes.  Interesting idea.  What about revoking citizenship from anyone that doesn't show up?  (As someone else mentioned ... civic duty and all that...

Money being paid to vote - would not be politically correct - maybe a freebie when you leave the voting poll place - such as?  I haven't a clue.  What would be an acceptable gift everyone would like and it would encourage them to go vote - hours are long too - early a.m. until mid-evening p.m.

Makes me think of... wasn't it Iraq that gave people cool glow-in-the-dark thumbprints for voting?  I'm wondering what kind of gift would get a 100% turnout in November.

"they" would essentially be spending our money on yet another irresponsible venture, so i'd have to say no more than a dollar.  not that i'd mind a couple hundred.

The do pay us to vote. Whether we are supporting  a local , state or national candidate we are all paid to vote......it is typically referred to as the "deficit" or the "national debt". You know ......that vast pool of money that politicians, of all stripes, use at their whim, to buy our support  so they can do all these great things for us when they get power!! Unfortunately we, the voters, are often only too willing to accept this "payment".

Interesting way to look at it, but then everyone gets "paid" whether they vote or not.  I'm really thinking more of the time spent by a particular individual to go, stand in line, mark their ballot, and come back.

Your life, your liberty and your ability to pursue happiness.

The problem with the present batch of candidates is that the only ones worth anything are not being talked about in the Corporate Party news.

Obamney and Rombama are both Corporate Party puppets -- two different flavors of tyranny, working for Goldman Sachs and the Rockefellers.

Also interesting - but everyone gets (or loses) that whether they vote or not.  If we had 100% turnout, do you think it would help 3rd party candidates at all?  What if they paid us $20 to go vote instead of allowing candidates to advertise?
