What is it about an article that attracts you to read it, in the field of personal development?
Detail is good... (smile)
People that are attracted to personal development articles, are looking for support and acknowledgement. I have reached a point in my life that is imperative to assert the commitment that I made to change for the better. We all need to be reminded that, as human beings, we are vulnerable and can make mistakes. So by definition we are bound to fall prey to disappointment. Believe it or not, the author has the responsibility to educate, inspire and leave an open door for the reader to find their own way.
This fact is reflected in the language and frailty of the author. Some people don't like to be encased in a generic train of thought, others seek just the opposite. I wish I had this gift. When I read self help articles I am searching for a map to myself. Blessings.
I totally agree especially with leaving the open door for the reader to find their own way. I've read your hubs and you have a great gift of writing. Your self shines through. Thanks for responding to the question.
I find I am attracted to most articles by either the title, graphics/photos and summary or all three. I may not even be looking for an article in the area of personal development, but if it matches any of the criteria mentioned I will probably read it. I always do a quick trawl of articles when I open HubPages and whatever catches my eye will usually be the one/s I read.
Great insights, and thank you for passing them on. It adds to my understanding. Also, it changes some ways I do things on Hub Pages - such as, I will write summaries for my hubs and learn how to do quick trawls!
Good question. Some writers and articles attract me well, however your question made me think about specific reasons. I think I get into the flow when a writing is (a) inspiring (b) and/or the author connects honestly with his/her self experience.
I look for articles that feature personal experience. I like to know if someone has first-hand knowledge of the issue.
This is very thought provoking question. Of course, for me, there usually is some personal connection, or will get me thinking about a subject to write about. I like articles that teach me something and broaden my understanding of the subject. I look for articles that get me thinking. When I write my hubs on personal development I like to do the same too. Personal development, psychology, and personalities are so intriguing a topic, there is so much depth to it.
Your comments help in many ways and will influence how I write future hubs and become more aware of my own process of finding hubs that attract me.
The personal connection, a feeling of the honesty and self-experience of the writer, are key factors
Have I heard of the topic, do I know someone with the symptoms, will it help me in having friends, etc.
