   Well once again my answer is simple and really it can be just this simple; yet, we have a tendency to over-complicate... Don't we?

   Following Christ makes one a Christian.
   
   Following his teachings.
   
   But some who call themselves Christians actually follow ego -- their own ideas, their own interpretations of the Bible, or borrowed dogma of others.
   
   Too many look to the letter of scripture and never find the spirit of it. The letter kills, but the spirit gives life.

      I see on your profile that you have "discovered" some true meanings.  I think everyone receives different messages from the Bible at different times in their lives. Recognizing those messages is part of being a Christian.

   A Christian is a believer in God and the fact that he sent is son Jesus Christ to die for our sins on the cross so that we may have the gift of eternal salvation. In accepting these believes the Christian basically to doing good works, as would be expected, thus demonstrating a true dedication to the beliefs and not just lip service.

   A Christian is one who has accepted Christ as their personal savior, accepting his full and complete payment for their sin at the cross. Understanding that it a free gift that must be accepted individually by each person, through faith, not of works and in it's entirety. It is not a title of inclusion in a specific denomination, but rather simply the inclusion of Him in your life as a believer in the finished work of Calvary.

   We as Christians believe that God sent His only begotten son, here on Earth in the flesh, to die for our sins on the cross and was resurrected on the third day from the grave.
   
   And as Christians we strive to follow Jesus' example of love and mercy.
   
   We strive to show kindness and forgiveness towards others, be humble, gentle in spirit and patient, just as God is to us.
   
   We strive to live and teach His word and share the knowledge of the Bible and the wisdom given to us.
   
   We strive to do what's right, live by faith and belief, and choose to share in God's suffering and persecution for the sake of righteous living.

   The Holy Spirit is what makes a Christian. Any other way negates the power of Jesus Christ.
