Only for taste. I know many people who sit down to a meal and the first thing they do is reach for the salt (and pepper) before they even taste the food. But, since I do most of the cooking at home, I already know what the seasoning is like. (My wife has high blood pressure, so I generally don't use a lot of salt if I can avoid it.) I think you always need to at least taste what the cook presents you. Then, if you personally would like to adjust a little, go for it.
I used to salt my food out of habit. I try to keep the salt out of the way, though, and when it's not right there asking to be shaken, I usually don't need it. I also don't use plain, iodized salt because I think it is too salty. I prefer sea salt or Pink Himalayan sea salt. Great flavor without being overpowering.
I salt for taste. I use very little salt when I cook so I always salt to taste when I eat. I never salt when I'm out because the food generally has way more salt than I'm used to.
Wow. I just did a quiz on this for a hub on low-sodium seasoning. I do not salt food on my plate out of habit or for taste. I season with herbs and low sodium seasonings during prep phase of cooking.
For taste. My mom always kept the salt shaker away from us and made our food unsalted, so now as an adult I find most food way too salty. I always wondered why some people salt their food before tasting it, I guess it really can become just a habit.
always for the taste. My husband will always salt his food before he even tastes it....I always taste first and salt if needed.
I add salt to my food while cooking to help the flavor of the dish not for it to have its own flavor.
I use a lot less salt than I used to. Most restaurant food now usually tastes too salty to me. The only exception is french fries (which I also eat infrequently). They still need salt.

What types of salt do you use in your kitchen? I use kosher salt for most of my cooking and baking. I use various types of sea salt for seasoning stuff at the table. And I like the Real Salt brand sea salt for popcorn.

What are some foods you absolutely must sprinkle salt on or they don't taste as good?I have a few odd ones: grilled cheese sandwiches, bread and butter (i.e. the bread you get at restaurants before the meal); and boiled eggs.

This question comes from my experiences with social networking. So many claim to be children of God, but mostly, their words are full of selfishness and pride. They spew out "advice" meant to hurt others; they brag about their "accomplishments" and God's glory is rarely...

When cooking spaghetti, which is more important to you-seasoning the meat or seasoning the sauce? In other words, do you season your ground beef to perfection (like I do) and just throw some jarred spaghetti sauce with it OR do you painstakingly make your own sauce and season it to perfection and...

Is wine typically an "acquired taste"?I'm still rather young (though legal) and my experience with alcohol is very limited. I don't care for the bitter tastes. Yet I do wish I could enjoy a glass of wine with family at holiday dinners instead of sipping and making a 'Blegh!' face. Is it...
