Thank you Paula -  and the same to you!!   And you're right;  I don't think the ache ever goes away.

Yes, my Lala and Paw.  This time of year always reminds me the most of them.  We would have been family dinners for Christmas.  They were the type of people that still dressed for special dinners, and you have to always wash up before you eat.  My Lala was an exceptional cook and all the old favorites.  Even when I was young and as I got older they were a married couple cut straight from the 50's.  I miss them very much this time of year and all the fun we had together as a family.  The warmth, the memories, and of course all the delicious smells.  Love you Lala Paw!!

I think we will always miss the older generation that we spent so many Christmases with!

I really miss my mom and dad. Even when we could not be together, we called and talked on Christmas Day. They are gone now and have been for 10 and 15 years. I really miss the all accepting love and support.

My dad's been gone a long time; mom's in a nursing home and won't be able to celebrate with us for the first time this year; and with my husband passing two years ago  - it is really sad.

I am sorry for your pain and hope it is a wonderful Christmas for you anyway. I now have grandchildren to spoil so it helps.

My grandmother. Winter was her season, and Christmas her favorite time of year. She would need 3 gigantic trees for all of her decorations to leave their boxes. As mother of the Young family, she would hold the Christmas family gathering at her home. Not attending was not an option. She would cook for four days getting all the food ready. But when she took a break, she would play the piano, if she could reach it with all the presents around the tree.

Oh, that sounds absolutely delightful.  Isn't it wonderful that we have these wonderful memories of Christmases past with grandparents.  : )

My mom died in October, 2008, and the first Christmas without her was terribly sad, but I still miss her all through the year. She enjoyed celebrating Christmas so much that the season invariably reminds me of her and makes me miss her more.

I've also lost other family members to death during the past decade and a dear friend who died a couple of years ago.  Those losses seem more poignant during the Christmas season, especially the "empty spaces" left by beloved family.

The older I become, the more likely there will be more empty spaces. Some day I will be that empty space, and it will be my children and grandchildren who miss me at Christmas. This is life.

You are so right Jaye -  it is the "circle of life";  we always miss them and we never forget  - no matter what time of year it is!
