    What preventive maintenance should be performed on a 2003 car with 90k miles?

    I have had the good fortunate to have no mechanical problems and have only replaced tires and done oil changes.  What are the highest value maintenance tasks I should perform to keep this car in good health as long as possible?

    Depending on the make model vehicle, a common recommendation is to replace the timing belt. On vehicles with a rubber belt, a broken belt can often ruin the entire engine. There are a couple exceptions.

    I would suggest changing the timing belt, thermostat, water pump, and the spark plugs. Those are usually the first things to start going. For a tune up you can also replace the plug wires. Changing all of the cars fluids (brake, transmission, antifreeze...) can help, too. If you want colder air from the air conditioning you can have the system recharged. Something that should be checked and changed at least once a year is the air filter for your engine.
