Why do you choose to follow God? (That if you do follow God) And if you don't...Why?
Or in other words....why should one follow God?
"And if you don't...Why?" I tend not to follow things I don't believe exist.
"why should one follow God?" Because it works for them personally.
Why would it "work for them" and not for you? The God I know and serve will "work" for anybody who excepts and wants to follow Hi's ways!
See that "works for you". That blind acceptance does not work for me. The wonderful thing is we can all choose different routes to our happiness.
The acceptance that I have is not "blind" and only came to me after years of trying to find another way. If you read some of my hubs I think that you will find I was not one to accept anything with my eyes closed!
Honestly I don't care what others believe, I care about doing what is right for me and my family. What others choose is none of my business.
HVW, Again it boils down to what one can believe. You can believe in a god while many of us can't.
Without proof I can't accept anything as existing, all the things I see point to non-existence of gods. My mind isn't closed but neither are my eyes.
And your eyes cannot see sound waves, atoms or germs. Could it be Borsia, that there are many thing we cannot see, but still exist?
You fail to mention there is physical proof of those things existing.
There is physical proof of the existence of those things now, but not always; however, they existed without proof.
HV actually we can see all those things, though with sound waves we can really only see their affects. We can also measure and quantify them and manipulate them and reproduce them.
And we can "see" the works of God all around us...but some do not want to give Him the credit he deserves!
I worship God because he is the light, the truth, and the way. God created me and gave me life. He loved me so much he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for my sins. I will always follow him because he first loved me. I cannot understand how anyone could make it in this old cruel world without God's guidance.
Exactly! He is the way and the life. There is no true life without him.
I concur, JThop42 has a excellent understand and approach to spreading the word.
I don't follow god, not out of choice, but out of understanding. My life and my education have progressed in such a way that it has rendered god unnecessary. I can blame the good and the bad on the whims of a shady deity, or I can attribute them to my own successes and failures. There are many reasons people follow god. It's easier, it offsets the fear of death, and it wipes clean a guilty conscience. If that were all it did, it wouldn't be a problem, but unfortunately it's been used as a weapon more so than a band-aid.
How can you speak what you "think" others are thinking. There are no stereotypes involved in loving God.
So in other words you "lean on your own understanding". Every time I tried that I regretted it. I think that this is what is wrong with the world today...they assume something is a certain way, even though they have not considered every possibility.
I'm not speaking for others; those are reasons I find god appealing. But 'appealing' doesn't prove existence. Leaning on my understanding doesn't mean I haven't considered more possibilities, it means I've considered god and found the idea inadequate
Then what do you find adequate, evolution?
I do not follow the concept because no amount of faith will ever solve the problem of racism and discrimination that exists in the world. They say be a good person, follow god and I will be rewarded with eternal life but I'd rather die with the disenfranchised.
Okay that is your right...Free will is a gift from God...
I don't follow any gods and the reasoning is quite simple.
I believe what I can rather than what I want.
As to the question of a god existing; either a god created everything and 1. is one twisted sick puppy and 2. then left for parts unknown or unknowable.
Or; no god ever existed and everything from the universe to all life on earth evolved through natural causes.
In all of these cases any gods are irrelevant.
And how could life evolve from "natural causes" ? What are the laws that allow that to happen? Then, finally...How can there be law with out a law giver?
The initial spark of life remains unproven but the concept that under the right circumstances something like a lightning bolt could have created that spark.
Once you have the first spark evolution begins and develops progressively more complex life.
And who created "the right circumstances"? Was all this just a "happy accident"?
pretty much just dumb luck after countless combinations over billions of years one struck just the right happenstance and the spark was made.
Frankly I'd be happy if all the weak minded easily corruptible people followed the teachings of the bible. That way their fear of god would keep them in line and out of trouble. That's the only reason I can see to follow god.
I don't believe god exists because I have yet to see any real evidence of it. I just kinda want all the atheists who are bad people to go join a church so they can stop giving the rest of us a bad rap.
I chose to follow God because I am and have always been his child. I can't remember a time ever I did not know him. There have been horrible times and real miracles in my life, yet never have I doubted his divine existence. Perhaps the question is more how can one not see life and all of its wonders, joy, love, compassion, sacrifice for another, and not know how it is all greater than the sum of what man is alone?
I follow in God's word because he loves me and he changed me. I can feel his love flowing through me. God is awesome! When I follow in his steps I am changing people around me.
Thank you Sarah, I could have not said it better myself!
I don't follow GOD I follow my parents, they are god to me, because they gave me everything and they taught me everything needed for a good person.
Even God speaks of the importance of following your parents, and that is good place to start!
I choose to follow God firstly because I believe He exists. And by believing in His existence also means I believe He created everything. And if a being is capable of creating this vast universe and life I certainly would want to follow Him.
Actually, I've believed in God all my life. I never had a choice. It is something inherent to my being. God has made his presence known to me since childhood.
I often wonder why some people become completely aware of God, why others are just as certain that God does not exist. Is this just a matter of choice?
I do not know if it was a choice for me. I mean I just always accepted it. That is an interesting question though.
I always thought there was a God...I just did not understand or "like" the concept of God. I still struggle with this to a degree.
