Why should I purchase a Mac over a PC?

   Why should I purchase a Mac over a PC?
   
   What software is only available for Mac or is better than that available for PC to warrant spending the extra money?

   I bought a Mac because of the video editing software I movie. It's easier to use than windows movie maker and looks more professional in my opinion. Also I photo is a neat way of organising your photos in my opinion... However outlook is a loss I have had to get used to:(

      I will agree that Mac has way better photo and video editing software but you don't have to take a hit on outlook. Microsoft released a version for Mac and as far as I know it functions very well.

   Most software has a MAC version. I have had my MAC for about 3 years and will never go back. I love it. It never locks up and any software I have installed went on seamlessly.  I can't say enough good about it.
   
   It seems PC's I have owned slows down after a while, gets owly and new software seems to create more problems.  So I thought I would try the MAC I really do recommend it.

   If you can't break away from the PC, but want to try Mac, you always can run Windows 7 or 8 on the Mac by using BootCamp, Parallels, or VMWare.  This way, you truly have the best of both worlds.

   That really depends on what you are doing with it. If you do any gaming, stick with PC's, and Mac's are much better for sound/video editing.
   
   However, unless you are doing the extremes of either, a custom built computer with one of the Linux distro's is your best bet. It will be cheaper, and there is an open source version of pretty much any program you would need.
   
   Slackware looks and performs amazingly well, but you really have to know what you are doing with it. Ubuntu isn't as pretty, although KUbuntu does look quite a bit better, but it's much more user friendly.

      Great answer! I was hoping someone would bring the penguin into the mix. I am a fan of Ubuntu myself, although I'm not very fond of the way they've been changing it lately. I may have to find a new distro.
      Do you work in IT? How do you know so much?

      I don't work in IT, but I haven't "bought" a computer since I was in high school, I've built the last 5 or so I've owned, along with my wife's.
      
      If you do tons of research before hand, Slackware is good. But, if something breaks, you lose the GUI.
