How often do you meditate?
How much time do you need to take out of your day to do this?
I try to meditate every morning but this is not always possible. I will vouch for this being a damned good way to set yourself up for the day. I always feel calmer and clearer in my mind when I go into the day with a meditation behind me. 30 minutes is about the perfect amount of time for me.
When we go to meet a dignitary we take bath, dress our self nicely so as to impress the dignitary in the best possible way so that he understands our feelings and emotions. If our meeting is successful we are very happy. Similarly if we are to meditate we will have to follow the same path as to How to impress GOD at the first instance for which we should be pure at heart so that HE understands our feelings and emotions. HE knows in advance why we are meditating and what is going on in our mind. When we fine tune with HIM then our mediation is successful. Meditation will take as much time as taken to FINE TUNE with HIM. Some do it in seconds and some may not be able to do it for years together or even may have to take rebirth to achieve the feat.
You do not need to "take time out" to meditate. Practice kinhin as you walk. Do not be in a hurry to get somewhere, just walk for the sake of walking.
The student approached the Zen master and asked "I am new here and I want to learn to meditate".
"Have you eaten yet?" the master asked.
"Yes."
"Then you had better go and wash your bowl."
Everyday I meditate at least for 20 minutes.
On weekends I attend group meditation sessions or followup session which are about 45 min to 1 hour. Attending these followup session helps me in maintaining my regularity on other days too.
I find meditation is a great way of controlling pain and as I am in pain everyday I have to meditate everyday.
I do however find different things to meditate on or about, painting or learning a new song for guitar always seems to focus my mind on one thing and therefor could be called a form of meditation.
Those who meditate on nothing will achieve nothing.
I take around 40 minutes in the morning and 20 to 25 in the evening. Was a time: 1986 to 1989 it was three times a day: 60 minutes, about 30 minutes then another 60 minutes. This became two 60 minute sessions for around fifteen years or so, then dropped to a 60 minuter in the morming and 30 at night. But over the last few years it's tapered off to 40 plus 20. In other words it's less than half than when I started 27 years ago. Still in all, it would be fair to say I have about 22,000 hours or so up.
I practice Vipassana Meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka.
I practice meditation, daily. I try to practice mindfulness all the time with no specific times for mediation, it is a continuous thing. I do sit for about half an hour a day.
