   You have only one day to step back into one period of history.  What time would you go back to?
   
   Would you walk with the mighty dinosaurs, hear the vikings roar or would you go back to see your great, great grandfather as a boy?

   Hi Anna. Another great question! I would go back to London, England in the late 1800s to see my great-grandmother before her mother died and left her a true orphan at the age of four. She wound up being a Barnardo Home Child and was sent to Canada in the late 1890s. I'd like to have spoken to her and her mother (I guess my great-great-grandmother) to find out who they were, what my great-grandmother's real name was, where they came from, what it was like being an orphan in London (I keep imagining Oliver Twist!) to fill in blanks of the family tree. It's like a piece of my ancestry is incomplete and a mystery.

      Hi Anndango, if I was you I would do that to. That is an incredible story of how part of your family settled in Canada from England, no wonder you would spend your day with them.

   I would go back to the 30's, to experience the aftermath of the Depression.  Some were affected, but actually a great deal were not.  I would enjoy meeting the gangsters first hand, so I would actually get the story straight from the horses mouth on why they really wanted to take money from the government, and not the average citizen.  I would have also liked to have seen the two worlds fairs during this era, too.

   The 1940'
   My parents grew up in that era. Yes there was a war, but there are wars now,
   I think there was still a certain sense of obligation to family and community.
   They only had a radio and they found ways to have fun.
   I would be afraid though too because of Hitler but there is still ethnic cleansing and genocide.
   But families and community tended to pull together more.
   We are all living in a ego-centric life. It's all me, me, me
   During the depression and war our family made their own fun and my grandfather helped in the shipyards.
   Tom Brokow wrote "The Greatest Generation" and I have to agree it was not a happy time but is this generation better?
   What went on then goes on now but I believe people were more discrete.

   I would go back to the 1970s. Although this decade had problems (all decades do), overall it still was better than the decade we live in now.
   
   Great music, good TV shows, you could have your front door open until it was dark ... just simpler times. Fashion was just very ugly, but still it was a better time than now!

      Thankyou for answering penlady,  the 1970's seem to be quite an iconic era.
      I know what you mean about TV shows, I loved the A Team, Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazzard in the 80's when I was growing up, Saturday nights were brilliant!

   I think I'd go back to the early 90's. I know that sounds less extravagant than different centuries and eras but, for one day... that's not a great deal of time. I think for me to relive the music and nostalgia would be epic. The Berlin Wall coming down, we're still dealing with Tienamen Square aftermath.. there's the US vs Iraq, the conclusion of the 8 yr war (Iran and Iraq), the development of grunge music, the beginnings of the internet taking off....AZT being developed for Aids Patients... much going on in the world.
