   Because the majority of people are not awakened.  We are at the mercy of being over governed and controlled, Additionally the mainstream media feeds us news that is sensationalized, untrue in many instances and gears into our lower levels of emotions which creates more fear and insecurities.

   How many people do you know who seriously devote the majority of their efforts to transforming fear, including fear of death and fear of any event that may take place in a lifetime? How many people even know that receiving the perfect Love that casts out fear is a choice they can learn to make? The collective consciouness has a huge layer of fear over the Light beneath, and we are all born into it. Leaving it requires believing it is possible, and doing a lot of work, work that includes taking responsibilty for every thought and feeling that we have, even the ones that are received from family or society.

   Your question reads, "Why do the majority of people still exist at a fear and security consciousness?" I am assuming that you are asking "why a majority of people are most concerned about fear and security issues?" And you mention "consciousness, so, I take it that you are saying that the majority of people are conscious that they exist at this fear and security level of being.
   Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, a theory that deals with these issues in a psychological way, was proposed by Abraham Maslow, a great scientist. At the bottom of the Maslow's Pyramid, a model that Maslow designed, one finds "Safety needs." I am not prepared to go further into Maslow's work because it would take pages of writing, and it goes beyond the scope of this platform here. If you google Maslow you will find a good number of quality references that will help you with your question.

   I am not convinced that the majority of people do still exist at a fear and security consciousness at least not the people who exist around me in my environment. It seems to me that the majority of people are hedonistic living for the now. They are more interested in celebrity gossip, trivia, sports, soaps and any old crap other than anything of any real concern. I am not saying this is true but I am saying that it seems to be my observation. It seems to me people are more interested in lying in the sun around a swimming pool than they about the doom and gloom being thrown around like confetti.
   
   Is there any evidence to back this statement up because the only real doom and gloom merchants are the media and it seems to me that most people are tuned out to it. I don't see any great majorities even trying to take or make much effort to be politically active. Even during governmental elections a growing number of the populations of the affluent west abstain from even bothering let alone be bothered to even understand what it's really all about or means.  Folk devils and moral panics don't seem to have any great influence on the majority of people.
   
   Unless something directly effects people most of them don't seem very interested, hedonism seems to be real name of the game not doom and gloom.
   
   Perhaps it's just me but I really think there would be more positive changes happening in the world if people where existing at a fear and security level of consciousness. 
   
   Perhaps this is a reverse psychological question?
   
   Perhaps I don't really understand the question?

      Many people handle fear by not wanting to think about it. Some tell me, "I don't want to be reminded of it and I don't think about it."

      I can't argue with this  "Some tell me, "I don't want to be reminded of it and I don't think about it."" but people also gravitate to similar others.

   People get scare with the sound of the alarm, and then they forget how to turn it off. Also, they do not know if someone enter into the house , or the alarm turn on by it self. Before  they call the security. Too much work after. If you talking about home land security. We all alert and fear too.If you talking about brain sickness. People need medicine and therapy.

   One reason I see is because we cling too much to the things of this earth. We fear loss of those things because we think we're nothing without them. Belief in something eternal and holding on to that is the answer of those who do not share these fears. But I sure am one of those who still fear some things but I'm working on eventually eliminating them..in time..in God's time..

   fear has been our initial reaction to many things. because we are not aware of what we are capable of. we tend to give up when we see blockages in our path. and when fear hits us security diminish. I think we need to know our self first.

   Why do the majority of people STILL live with fear and security consciousness? Because we are not born with an operational manual as to how life should be lived. We learn from others and oftentimes, it's just the case of the blind leading the blind. Instead of leading our own life as we want it to be, we end up trying to keep up with the Jones. And for all you know, the Jones are trying to keep up with you!!! We value other people's opinion of us higher than we value our own. In short, we let other people lead our life. Once we are at peace with our own self, then and only then, can we begin to start living.
   
   Having said that, fear and security consciousness are inbuilt evolutionary mechanism to ensure our survival. A reasonable level of insecurity may actually be healthy but once it gets out of control, that's when problems begin. The only certainty about the future is that it will always be uncertain... even if we have all the money in the world, many things can derail our life... wars, a business failure, separation, diseases, death, etc etc.
   
   But looking back at my own life, I would say that 95% of my fears were either imaginary, or else they were blown out of proportion. Still, there is the 5% that, if not properly handled, could bring me unpleasant and disastrous consequences.

    The thing mentioned in your question "majority of people STILL exist at a fear and security consciousness" is absolutely true. Though most of us say that there is nothing to be feared, its not the real fact. Crimes are going on increasing day by day. In many countries like India and Pakistan women are not still free enough to walk about with full freedom. Some sort of danger would be waiting for her in any form. So in such countries, necessary steps should be taken from the part of authorities to bring about a change.

    I do not feel that a majority of people feel as you have said about being fearful and insecure. Many do, and I believe that is is because we now live in a world of high technology in which all news, whether sensationalized or factual, is broadcasted all over the world in a matter of seconds after the event has occurred. Instantaneously we are alerted to all trauma, killings, disasters that are a part of daily lives in this volatile world in which we each try to exist. Greed fuels most now, and from the top of the food chain to the bottom. It is the corrupt and dangerous human trait that always seems throughout history to bring mighty civilizations down. Those who turn to religious beliefs, or having been an important part throughout their lives, may cope best in this stressful society. Where there is faith, there is hope, and this keeps us all going, despite our hazards and challenges. Thanks for this interesting question.whonu
