Who Are Your Heroes? Are there any public figures that you look up to?
I will look up to anyone who is taller than 5'9". (Drum roll!!)
But seriously, I think the last public figure that I looked up to was Harry Truman, the 33rd. President of the United States who served during the challenging years from 1945 to 1953. It fell to Harry to make some of the most difficult decisions any world leader has ever faced.
Since Truman, the U.S. Presidents have mostly been a rag tag crew consisting of: a general, a lecher, a snowjobber, a farmer, an actor, another lecher, a fool, and a junk food junkie. I hope I did not leave anyone out.
My heroes are many, but they do not make big play checks playing a game.
My heroes and the policemen and firemen who protect our community--realizing that some are not heroes.
My heroes are the teachers who work for low pay, spend their own money and spend hours of time before and after school working with those students that need extra help.
My heroes are those who take the risk and fly into space to help us better understand our universe.
My heroes are the men in uniform who go where their nation calls upon them to go.
These are the people I admire.
I do not consider bickering politicians, news reporters who have forgotten the importance of objectivity and businessmen who do not realize that their employees are their most important assets.
Finally, my heroes are some special people I have know in my life, my father, a former boss, a former college instructor and the doctor who saved by life.
These are my heroes.
Hazrat Sakhi Sultan Muhammad Ali
he is the leader of Islam and he have a Finance of faqr.
Faqr is the special given the finance from Allah.
No - there are no public figures that are my heroes. It is the children that are my heroes because of their innocence and truth.
Sachin Tendulkar, The God of Cricket (from India) is my all time hero. No one can beat his record at any time as it such huge ones, no one can reach even closer to it. Above he is decent man out of any controversies or allegations. The whole sports fraternity love and respect him deeply.
My hero is not from modern time, but lived more than 2000 years ago, Alexander the Great.
I actually wrote the whole hub on him: http://evaberlin.hubpages.com/hub/Alexander_the_Great
Mother Teresa. Billy Graham. Hunter Thompson. You figure it out.
Some years ago I read the autobiography of Professor Fred Hollows. Fred was a New Zealander by birth who later adopted Australia as his home. He was an ophalmic surgeon who took his skills firstly to the outback of Australia where he treated huge numbers of Abologinals, restoring their sight free of charge.
He and a few others then moved on to Africa where they restored, once again free of charge - the money being raised through their charitable organizaiton - thousands of Africans. This charity continues, being managed by his wife. Fred died of cancer a few years back.
Though I never did get to meet him, I still get to see his very short commercial on television as the charitable legacy he left behind continues with his good work. I guess you could say that Professor Fred Hollows is one of my heroes.
Prophet Mohammad, Jesus Christ, Moses. Its very difficult to find public figures these days. I was impressed once by a local Jordanian politician by the name of Taher Al Masri. I must say, Bill Clinton, used to come on well on television despite his sexual antics. I don't think I admired Margaret Thatcher nor Tony Blair, But I thought Edward Heath came on well, so was Jim Callaghan, Denis Healy, Tony Benn. I thought the late King Hussein came on very well as a charismatic figure. I think I remember Indira Gandhi. Lots more I guess, but they just don't come to mind.
Public figures? No. I don't find much admirable about them except their positions. The heroes I admire and respect are those who do their best for other people and work for a passion.

Two male public figures have recently ruined their lives over young mistresses. Why do men do this? These men are married and both lost their jobs over the situation. One was in sports and one a company CEO. They have so much to lose to persist in destructive behavior.

bankrupting the United States? Before the advent of mass welfare, people worked and made their way in life. No job was too degrading to do as long as it put food on the table, clothes on one's back, and a house to live in. People were PROUD and GLAD to work and be independent! The advent of...

To those who collect cheap toys or figures, do you ever open the packaging?Obviously for the majorly expensive collectable figures, most people won't open them, but do those of you who collect cheaper toys or figures (like amiibo or Skylanders and things like that) regularly open them up?...
