What experience in your life was too challenging for you to handle and how did you find resolution?

A decade of agonizing and debilitating physical pain due to incurable illness was really tough. But when I made the emotional shift that nothing is "unbearable," rather, I can bear what happens,it  made a big difference.

Realizing that I would never live to see 50 when I weighed 390 lbs at 24 years old.  Every physical task was so daunting, I felt I would never have what it takes to live a normal life.  Then, as I got older and began to learn things through reading and conversation, I began to understand that the best way to tackle a problem was by whittling it down through time and effort.  Eat a little bit less, walk a little bit more.  More than anything, just keep doing that and start the ball rolling.

    That was three years ago.

I'm 220 lbs as of today.

EJ, you might enjoy a hub I wrote about a friend of mine who took the same approach and succeeded, too. It's called "a couch potato runs a marathon."

In 2009, my husband and I lost everything. Jobs were more concerned about upper management than those who bust their tails to make their company something, prices went sky high, gas went up, electricity...everything that could go wrong- did.

Even now we are somewhat okay but once everything gets lost that you owned and once you realize that family and friends turn into illusions during your struggles, you realize one thing: You only have to remain strong because there is no other choice.

I think the hardest part of our struggle, is that we could lean on and trust absolutely no one. People bailed. Our situation was too hard for them I guess and they had a lack of understanding. Some of these people were our Christian friends and did not show the love of Christ- so anyway. How did we handle the situation?

I have an awesome husband- we relied on each other and supported one another. There was no blame game or bailing out. Things were so much sweeter knowing we had everything if we just remain positive. In due time, because of our fervent prayers and hard work, we have somewhat rose above the slush pile. We are not clear out of the woods yet but we have hope and at least some income now.

I can not conclude without mentioning resources that helped us:

    1.A Reliable friend.
    2. The public library- this is where we went to go online and create our resumes, look up jobs, and search out volunteer services.
    3. The local social services
    4. A local catholic church and prayer room where people were sympathetic to us and helped a lot.

    Hope this helps someone.

What wonderful growth. It sounds like the "everything" you lost was a good riddance, and that a strong marriage, a good friend, a church, and a library hold all you truly need.

Hello Erica Jean.  Thanks so much for your response and sharing.  The list you included will surely help someone else, so thank you for that too.  The emotional support we receive in our life trials can be both surprising and remarkable.
