   If he is my husband then I kick him out from my life and forget I ever knew him or met him. I will have better things to do than to allow myself to be pestered by undeserving fools.
   If the person is a best friend then I will let him/her be and I would keep my silence unless he/she would need me to talk to him/her; if so I would reprimand her/him and remind him/her that sooner or later there would be bitter consequences f his foolish ways that he must face and when that time comes he must suffer alone.

   Michele,  I am one woman who needs to tread very gently here......depending upon which category of "double standards"  and to what degree they are presented.
   Allow me to try to explain.  Speaking of "double standards,"....I know that we "can't have it BOTH ways."......which is what I mean by treading carefully here. 
   Sounding very much like a LAME EXCUSE, (a-HEM)....I ask that my boomer background be taken into serious consideration.....please?   After all, it is a part of who we boomers are.....Our "era," that is.
   When I use the word, "category," I mean...what are we discussing?  Equal rights, equal pay, equal treatment.....the EQUALITIES that should rightly be afforded ALL human beings, of course.  OR....are we perhaps considering the eternal war of the sexes, wherein, attitudes, perspectives and opinions, tend to place men, WHERE MEN BELONG...and women, WHERE WOMEN belong.  You're a highly intelligent gal...I'm sure you know where I may be going here.....I confess that I may be one of "those people" who sometimes, practices double standards......If I should hang my head in shame, I can't do it.  This is what I mean by 3 decades of staunch upbringing, IDEAS/IDEALS.......what can I say?   Sounds like hypocrisy but I swear it's actually mass confusion, I've been struggling like hell, to sort through, for years.   I might just BE one of those people whom you ask others how they deal with, when encountered!......gulp.

   The only thing you can do is try not to get sucked into their reasoning. Such people basically lie to themselves and others. Theirs is a negative method of self-protection in that these people manage to not see themselves clearly. Such people often point fingers at others so as not to have to look at themselves. And chances are, they never will... unless something happens to turn their lives upside down. 
   Whatever you do, don't ever expect to get anything good from anyone who is an expert at self deception. People who practice double standards are best left alone to deceive themselves as much as they like. If you are currently living with such a person, you probably need to find away to get out. If you work with them, then call them out if you can, but do it calmly, then walk away. The idea here is to let them know you've got their number.

      One other point. If this person is also a full-fledged narcissist, and you must work with them, then you would be better off NOT calling them out. This would only enrage them and put your career in jeopardy, as they will twist the facts against you.

   When they're in the Whitehouse, there's not much you can do, especially when the political machine of the Corporate Party won't allow anyone but their own handpicked puppets to become president.
   
   Obama, for instance, swore to protect the Constitution of the United States, but has repeatedly shredded it and our Bill of Rights. He has also bypassed Congress with signing statements (something he said he wouldn't use). He promised to pull us out of Iraq on the first day (that we could "take that to the bank"), but he dragged his feat for years. Now, we're still in Iraq, even though they've changed the name of our "occupation." And Obama had the criminal audacity to say that those who were imprisoned in Guantanamo should stay there indefinitely, even if found innocent of all charges!
   
   I can't believe people still trust that treasonous criminal. Heck, I voted for him in 2008. I naively believed his rhetoric. Then I woke up.
   
   Perhaps the best way to deal with such duplicity is to walk away. Stop buying corporate goods. Stop buying gasoline, as much as possible. Drive a stake in the heart of the corrupt beast by not feeding it with our dollars. Buy local. Buy fresh produce -- nothing packaged (it's all poisonous, anyway, giving America highest cancer rates). Bank locally. Boycott Bank of America, Kelloggs, Exxon, etc. Stop watching TV. Each one of these monsters is owned by a handful of companies, which in turn is owned by a handful of companies, which is owned by a small clique of psychopathic elite who don't care about America or mere millionaires.
   
   Stop going to allopathic M.D.'s and stop taking Big Pharma poisons. They don't know what they're doing, or they know, but don't care. Profit is their game. Curing is anathema to them. They're into "disease maintenance," not "health maintenance." That kind of duplicity is what led to the outlawing of cures. The revolving door between government and corporations has fed this monster.
   
   Walk away!
