    Can you freeze tinned tomatoes?

I did mean once opened, not still in the tin/can. Sometimes I make pasta sauce that uses one and a half tins. It's not nice to waste half a tin of tomatoes, so could they be frozen?

Yeah, I freeze canned tomatoes all the time but first I take them out of the can to prevent the can from bulging and splitting. It can be impossible to always use the exact amount of food in a can so I freeze what I can to save money.

Thanks! I'm a bit annoyed with myself for not thinking of it sooner.

Yes, you can. They'll be a little gooshier after you freeze them, but they should freeze just fine for up to a month. Just make sure to get as much air out as possible.

Thank you. I always forget about checking dates once things are frozen. I tend to think they last forever.

As per the other replies, no problems about freezing as long as you take them out of the tin. Depending on your expected usage patterns, you can freeze the half tin of contents in one small container (if you expect to use all of it next time) or put them into smaller containers (if you find you use small quantities from time to time). Try to use air-tight containers of a size sufficient to hold the tomatoes without too much empty space left. This minimizes ice formation and freezer burn.

Yes, you can freeze but do check the expiry date and it you want to use it twice or thrice again its better to make small portions as per your requirement. it would be easy to just take out a portion and use it rather then defrosting it and again putting it in the freezer
